Poll: Male Involvement at Schools on the Rise
A National PTA poll shows that more men are involved in their children's education than ever before. Almost 50 percent of U.S. parent leaders said that the level of male involvement has grown at their PTA in the last three years.

Study: Exercise Helps Raise Test Scores
Studies by Ontario, Canada, researchers indicate that schools that stress fitness and nutrition have seen their standardized scores rise by as much as 50 per cent over two years in third grade.

Dept. of Education Approves Two Growth Model Pilots for NCLB
Two growth models, which follow the principles of the No Child Left Behind Act, were approved by the U.S. Department of Education. Michigan is approved to use the growth model for the 2007-2008 school year. Missouri's growth model is approved on the condition that the state adopt a uniform minimum group size for all subgroups.

Forget cookie sales -- parent groups around the U.S. are pursuing major fundraising efforts and corporate sponsors to pay for improvements and equipment in schools that communities can no longer afford.

Teachers React to Dress Code Memo
Incensed by many teachers "dressing down," the Wyandanch, New York, superintendent fired off a memo saying teachers should dress like they are working with children, not cows and horses. The teachers' union reacted sharply to the memo.

Charter Schools Springing Up in New Orleans
Three years after Hurricane Katrina wiped out New Orleans' struggling public school system, charter schools are flourishing in the city. About 53 percent of students now attend charter schools.
