Autogeeks Guide to Summer Car Care
Simple Gas-Saving Solution
According to the governments tips for improving fuel economy, keeping your tires properly inflated can save you up to $0.11 a gallon (based on $3.72/gallon). On an 18 gallon tank, youre saving approximately $1.98 per fill-up, or $103 over the course of a year (assuming weekly fill-ups). Some experts estimate that properly inflated tires give you an extra mile per gallon. Plus, properly inflated tires last longer and ride better.
For every pound per square inch that all four of a vehicles tires are under-inflated, a drivers gas mileage is lowered by 0.4 percent. Some 3.56 million gallons of gas are wasted EACH DAY because of incorrectly-inflated tires according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
At least once a month, use a tire gauge to make sure your tires are inflated per the tire manufacturers recommendation. Tire gauges are affordable, easy-to-use devices that make your fuel go farther, improve your vehicles handling, and prolong the life of the tires.

Beat the Heat Inside Your Car
How bout this heat? Summer has announced its arrival on the East Coast with a scorching heat wave this week, and vehicles felt the burn. A car acts like an oven: the windows allow sunlight in and theres no outlet for the heat. Studies show that when its 95°F outside, the temperature inside a parked car can exceed 122°F within 20 minutes! One of the best ways to keep your vehicle cool is a Sun Shade. A Sun Shade blocks UV rays from entering your vehicle through the windshield which not only keeps the passenger cabin cooler, it prevents UV degradation of the dash and interior. Select from our custom sun shades for a clean, attractive fit.

Sunscreen for Paint
Summer paint protection is extremely important because UV rays accelerate oxidation. Paint has oils that give it a smooth, shiny look. Heat causes these oils dry up, leaving the paint looking dull and chalky. A quality wax or paint sealant will seal in these oils, and in some cases renourish the paint to prevent oxidation. Pinnacle Souverän Carnauba Paste Wax is one example of a renourishing wax that restores the paints slick, shiny look. Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 seals in the paints shine and provides excellent UV protection, even in intense climates. |

A wax or sealant further protects the paint by keeping it clean. A premium wax or sealant provides a barrier between contamination and the paint. Insects and bird droppings are corrosive, so the paint protection helps prevent direct contact with the paint.
Waxes and sealants are slick for a reason. By reducing surface tension, they can repel a lot of dirt and debris that would otherwise stick to the paint. As I mentioned, a lot of organic debris is corrosive. The fewer things that stick to the paint, the better.
An old-fashioned car wash once a week is still the best way to take care of your vehicle. By cleaning it, youre removing contamination before it penetrates the wax and harms the paint. Besides, whats more fun than washing the car on a hot summer day? |
