Summer Hair Do's & Don'ts
So, Criss Kally, you love the warmer months of the year, and everything good they bring… Your days are filled with warmer weather, the sunshine, sandy beaches, or a nice dip in the pool.
Summer may also bring dreams of natural highlights on beautiful wind blown hair, but by 4th of July a quick glance in the mirror lets us know what we forgot to protect from the elements -- our hair.
Indeed, a season of exposure to sun, humidity, salt water, and chlorine can come together to damage your hair's cuticle, resulting in dry, brittle, frizzy, split hair and ends.

The best approach for healthy hair is to take care of both the inside and the outside of the hair.
Select shampoos and conditioners that penetrate deep into the hair cortex to deliver nutrients and restore moisture, and remember that hair masks and leave-in conditioners are a must to protect your hair against the harsh elements of the season
Undoing the Damage
While it seems that damage comes very easily during the summer, restoring your hair health can be hard. "It seems very natural to use more styling aids if your hair is already damaged to the point that it will not hold a style -- but if your hair is damaged, these products can make it look and feel worse," says Stephen.
Instead, you should start by replenishing moisture and nutrients to the hair, by using shampoos and conditioners that will not only moisturize and nourish the hair, but also and bring hair cuticles back to life, such as the Deep Moisture Collection.
Beating the Heat
There is nothing more refreshing than a dip in the pool or ocean on a hot summer day, but both chlorine and salt water known causes of damage to your hair.
Other than keeping it out of the water, the best way to protect your hair is conditioning. Stephen recommends "putting on a good leave-in conditioner, as my Hydro Repair Mist, before getting in the water to defend your hair from the pool or sea water."
It's also important to remember to properly shampoo and condition your hair as soon as you get home to remove remaining salt or chlorine.
Split Ends
Split ends are especially a problem during the summer. Of course, the best way to remove split ends is to have your hair cut regularly, but to avoid their appearance, use a hair mask once a week.
