States Wrestle With School Bus Fuel Costs
The soaring cost of fuel for school buses is forcing some school districts to reduce the number of field trips, cut the school week down to four days, and even eliminate bus transportation for some students.

State Asks for 'Fresh Start' on NCLB
Idaho's State Board of Education has asked the U.S. Department of Education to disregard 2002-2006 student progress measurements for hundreds of schools now facing sanctions under No Child Left Behind.

Districts Receive Funds for Emergency Planning

The high-school graduation ritual in some communities of teens partying at a beach for a week, which often includes excessive drinking, is raising concerns among parents and educators.

Alumni Perform for Retiring Music Teacher
Thirty-three former students of San Diego County music teacher Ron Bolles performed at a concert in honor of his retirement. The money raised at the concert will go to an arts foundation Bolles plans to start.

Loan Program Helps Teachers Buy Homes
Some teachers in Miami-Dade County, Florida, now have a chance to buy homes through a program that offers interest-free loans. Teachers must commit to teaching in the district for at least five years to qualify for a loan.
