NEW ATOM MODELS TARGET LOW-COST PCS
Intel has announced a second wave of Atom processors, targeting simple
desktops and notebooks the chipmaker dubs "nettops" and "netbooks." The
Atom N270 and 230 processors are accompanied to market by matching
945GSE and 945GC chipsets and low cost SSDs (solid state drives).

ASUS ATOM-IZES EEE PC
Asus announced two new versions of its Eee PC, both based on Intel Atom
processors. The Eee PC 901 and 1000 models provide 8.9-inch and 10-inch
displays, respectively, and add Bluetooth, longer battery life, improved
shock resistance, faster WiFi, more storage, and WiMAX options.

ATOM-BASED NETBOOK RUNS LINUX
The world's third-largest PC vendor has announced a "netbook" based on a
1.6GHz Intel Centrino Atom processor and Linpus Linux. Acer's $380
Aspire One offers 512MB or 1GB of RAM, 8GB flash, an 8.9-inch, 1024x600
display, WiFi, webcam, and an optional 80GB hard drive.

NETBOOK BOASTS OVERCLOCKABLE ATOM
MSI has announced a low-cost "netbook" based on Intel's N270 Atom
processor. The "Wind NB U100" includes a 10-inch display, 80GB hard
drive, 1GB of RAM, webcam, five-hour battery life, 802.11b/g and
Bluetooth wireless, and can be overclocked to 1.9GHz.

MINI-NOTEBOOK RUNS "WINDOWS FRIENDLY" LINUX
3K Computer is shipping a $300 ultra-mini PC notebook that runs "Genuine
CE" Linux from a 4GB SSD (solid-state disk). 3K's RazorBook
400-Mini-Notebook uses a 32-bit RISC-based processor from Chinese
processor start-up Ingenic.

INTEL ANNOUNCES ULTRA-LOW-COST SSDs
Intel has announced a low-cost, NAND-flash-based SSD (solid state
drive). The Z-P230 uses a parallel ATA (PATA) interface to save power in
mobile devices, and sells for $25 in a 4GB version, or $45 for 8GB. A
16GB version will be available in the fourth quarter.

SSD FITS SATA SOCKETS
InnoDisk has announced what it touts as the world's smallest SSD (solid
state drive) with a Serial ATA (SATA) interface. Adapting the typical
IDE module to SATA's smaller connector, the "Satadom" needs no separate
power cabling, features a locking connector, and targets harsh
environments.

CHINESE PHONE DESIGNS RUN LINUX
Shenzhen, China-based smartphone design company Tranzda Technologies is
marketing five phone designs that use its NewPlus Linux phone
application stack. All five Tranzda designs include GPS, along with
optional features that include WiFi, cameras, and fingerprint readers.

GOOGLE SHOWS OFF ANDROID GOODIES
Search giant Google demonstrated gesture- and touchscreen-based
password entry on a prototype Linux Android phone, according to reports.
Part of a Google developer conference, the demonstration also reportedly
showed off a "compass" feature that adjusts Google Maps' Street View
according to the user's orientation.

LINUX PHONE STACKS TARGET CORTEX-A8 SOC
Two vendors of Linux mobile phone software announced support for Texas
Instruments's newest applications processor for mobile phones. At
Computex Taipei, Movial Creative Technologies is showing its IXS
(Internet eXperience Stack) mobile toolkit, and Azingo is demonstrating
its Azingo Mobile stack, both optimized for TI's OMAP3430.

ARM SOC CLOCKS TO 2GHZ, RUNS LINUX
Marvell is sampling a new family of high-performance, ultra-low-power
system-on-chips (SoCs) targeting IP-based home gateways, set-top boxes
(STBs), home routers, media servers, and mobile Internet devices (MIDs).
The Linux-compatible Marvell 88F6000 chips integrate Feroceon cores that
clock to 2GHz, and draw 2 Watts, Marvell says.
