REVIEW: A+
This innovative free resource provides teachers with an engaging way to teach American History, culture and other subjects. It introduces students to America's art treasures through high quality reproductions of notable American art including "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere," "Washington Crossing the Delaware," and "Looking Down Yosemite Valley". Visitors to the site can peruse the image gallery by clicking the right arrow to scroll through the images, roll the mouse over the interactive boxes at the bottom of the page or sort the images by theme. Themes include leadership, freedom & equality, democracy, courage, landscapes, and creativity & ingenuity. There is also an illustrated teachers' resource book with activities organized by elementary, middle and high school levels. K-12 schools, home school consortia, and public libraries are invited to apply for a set of 20 laminated posters and the teachers' resource book to use in their classrooms.

African American Odyssey: A Quest for Full Citizenship

This exhibition explores the African-American quest for equality through nine chronological periods from the early national period through the twentieth century. Using more than 240 items from the collections, the site documents the struggles and courage of blacks faced with adverse circumstances who overcame the odds to fully participate in all aspects of American society. The exhibit includes a wide array of important and rare books, government documents, manuscripts, maps, musical scores, plays, films, and recordings. It details strategies used to secure the vote, recognizes outstanding black leaders, and documents the contributions of black sports figures, soldiers, artists, actors, writers, and others in the fight against segregation and discrimination. Section titles include slavery, free blacks in the antebellum period, abolition, the Civil War, reconstruction, Booker T. Washington Era, World War I and postwar society, depression, New Deal, and Worl d War II, and Civil Rights.

Food Force offers information and resources to anyone interested in learning more about or helping combat world hunger. Included is an interactive world hunger map, a blog about world hunger, and a pressroom with images and articles as well as an email newsletter for updates on how WFP is working to eliminate world hunger. Educators will particularly find the site to be helpful in teaching students about the problem and what they can do to help. The downloadable Food Force game simulates the implementation of a humanitarian relief program. Comprised of 6 mini-games or “missions”, the game takes young players from an initial crisis assessment through to delivery and distribution of food aid, with each sequential mission addressing a particular aspect of this challenging process. The teacher’s section provides lesson plans and ideas for using the game as a classroom tool..

If You Don't Feed the Teachers, They Eat the Students
This book's best joke may be its title, but it's still very refreshing to have a humorous approach taken to the endless supply of practical tips that the art of teaching needs. In particular, this is one of the best books for teachers to give to administrators as "presents..." well, a gift that hopefully will keep on giving back to the teachers. Lots of great stuff in here that teachers can make happen, but it's really a book that can give administrators ideas to help the staff in many human ways in this most human of professions.

The Sixty-Second Motivator
Okay, this isn't really an education book per se, but if there's any profession that faces motivation challenges, it's teaching: Teachers have to motivate students to learn, to behave, and maybe even to grow up a little bit. They also have to motivate administrators to learn, to behave, and maybe even to grow up a little bit (just kidding). Seriously, self-motivation is a huge part of any job that requires a person to motivate other people, and this is certainly a useful approach to self-motivation for time-strapped teachers.
