the Rock: Man On Earth (9:00 pm)
    Residency week #2

All Music Guide once described Man On Earth's sound as "melodic, post-Britpop sensibility with sharper-edged American guitar muscle, then tops it off with thoughtful lyrics. Surprisingly mature and far-reaching, the band is really too eclectic to simplify with easy comparisons."

After a number of successful shows at NYC's famous CBGB's the band was featured in Current TV's documentary special on the legendary club. As further spokesmen for the NYC music scene, the band was featured on FUSE TV for its participation in the Virgin / Fuse TV sponsored Brit Bus Tour. Music from the first album began appearing on thousands of Independent Podcasts and the much praised U.K. animated video for 'Come in Closer' received over 100,000 plays through manonearth.com including spins on Canada's MUCH MUSIC's Groundbreaking video show the Wedge. In Spring of 2006 the band released 'the Man On Earth EP'.

The lead track 'It feels like...' saw over 40,000 plays in four months on myspace and appeared as the theme song in 2005's Indy cult classic movie 'klayworld: off the table'. The film pushed legal downloads of the soundtrack way past 35,000 copies in just 3 months. The Man On Earth EP also features a guest appearance by Stephen Pearcy from the multi-platinum 80's metal band RATT on the eclectic rock track 'So you're the genius behind this?' The story was shortly after featured in Metal Edge magazine. The band is currenlty finishing their new album "Mass Produced Popular Opinion" with top major label Producer / Mixer Ken Lewis whose credits include 6 Grammy's, 38 Gold and Platinum albums / singles and 19 1 albums and singles through his work with a wide array of artists from John Legend, The Beastie Boys, Lenny Kravitz and Soul Asylum to Kanye West, Jay-Z and Usher among many others.

The band also just released their new video "Hold Your Breathe and Brace for the Crash" where they applied a guerrilla technique to locations around NYC without any permits; the Brooklyn Bridge, Union Square, meatpacking district, Times Square, and a rooftop. The concept was to simply let the cameras roll and capture the moment. Watch the video now below...

the Rock: the Picture (9:45 pm)
    -sniff- we've missed these guys...

NYC's The Picture blends layers of sonic indie rock with a dose of Brit-pop. Led by Robert Abel of NY and Chris Buckle of Liverpool, England, the band brings to mind melodies of new wave modern rock from the early 80's, with an approach reminiscent of the shoegazers and the late 60's wall of sound.

In early 2006 the band released their self-titled EP, which in part was recorded with two-time Grammy nominated producer Carmen Rizzo and top engineer Andrew Scheps .The success of the EP led to the signing to Indie pioneers Lovely Recordings that released their first album "Connect" in December 06.

The Picture has since toured the UK twice and throughout the US developing loyal fans and friends along the way. The "Connect" album featured the song Blind Side, which received significant radio play on specialty and college radio.

2007 brought a new anticipated album, "Drift Away". Described as "addictive" by the New York Post, the Brooklyn based band again successfully bridges the US/UK gap by intertwining layers of sonic indie rock with a dose of Brit-pop. The Picture's songs hit with the urgency of a NYC cabdriver, elevating their perfect-pop decadence above their contemporaries. Working with Andrew Scheps, (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jay-Z, Johnny Cash, U2, etc.) "Drift Away" features the title track along with fan-favorites Arrested and Turn It On.

the Rock: Killing Phantoms (10:30 pm)
    Phoung and the gang...

Rocking you gently. And sometimes hard. Killing Phantoms grew out of a common idea of making music that would soundtrack your life, with songs that won't leave your head, and a sound that helps soothe your soul. Phuong Nguyen came fresh from singing/songwriting as Phuong You Norway straight out of Minneapolis when he moved to New York in 2004 with a head full of Beatles harmonies and Big Muff fuzz, only to meet John LaBombard, guitarist in the most classic of veins, at a completely random party in Spanish Harlem. Several stolen drinks later, through hazy dreams and bold claims, they hashed out the plan for what would be Killing Phantoms. However, it took John's younger sister, Mags LaBombard, to lay down the low end with taut precision and indie sensibility to bring the band to fruition. Along the way, they wooed shirtless drummer extraordinaire Jonathan Curtiss by serendipity and freakishly good Mike (also of the LaBombard clan) to contribute suave piano/keys/saxophone to complete the sound.

After splitting from the ashes of their former bands, they cut their teeth around NYC's clubs through 2006/2007, and released a self-titled full-length album in October 2007. An EP recorded earlier in the year with Ray Ketchem of Elk City, titled Orange Road, is being mastered with expected release by early 2008. Sax man Mike departed for the southern hospitality below the Mason-Dixon line in April of '08. The Phantoms continue to rock with new songs and plans to record late in the year. Stick it on your tongue and rub it all around.

    Afterparty: the Crooked Disco DJ's
electro, baltimore, and even more... stay for the late shift

Crooked Disco began out of a simple love for all types of music. DJ Morsy (nanachill) and Chris Lehault (freenyc - and in dire need of a cooler moniker) wanted to revive the old one room party days where you could here various genres of music throughout the night. The product is Crooked Disco, an audio assault of electro, hip hop, mash-ups, techno, breaks, and whatever else suits our fancy. Combine that with our commitment to bringing the finest visual artist out each an every month and you've got something unlike any other event going on in nightlife today.

Be on the look out for lots more Crooked Disco in 2008 as we're just getting warned up
