BANGALORE OPENS DOORS TO GAYS

homosexuality, gay parties and clubs get open space in the southern
city of Bangalore. A young cosmopolitan expatriate population and new
workforce policies are helping the city become acceptant of same-sex
couples.

DEATH PENALTY IN INDIA A LETHAL LOTTERY, SAYS REPORT

(2 jun 2008) India’s death penalty system is discriminatory and
arbitrary according to a latest report released by human rights
watchdog, Amnesty International India and Peoples Union for Civil
Liberties. Analysing various Supreme Court judgments, the report
reveals that no clear guidelines exist with regard to awarding
capital punishment.

CYCLONE-HIT MYANMAR STRUGGLES TO GROW RICE

(2 jun 2008) Farmers in Myanmar’s cyclone-hit Irrawaddy delta are
racing against the clock to grow rice as paddy fields remain flooded
with salt water and with no livestock to plough. Once called ‘the
rice bowl of Asia’, the region relies heavily on its June harvest to
meet its domestic and export needs.
