This past week I announced the release of two e-books: the third
edition of "WordTips: Styles and Templates" and the brand new "Word
2007 Styles and Templates." These e-books provide you with the
powerful concepts and techniques that you need to master using styles
and templates in Word.
Why would you be concerned with this? Quite simply because styles and
templates are extremely powerful--they can make formatting documents
in a consistent manner a snap.
Don't take my word for it, though--check out the Web page if you are
using a version of Word prior to Word 2007:
http://store.vitalnews.com/wtst.html
If you are using Word 2007 (or soon will be) then you will want to
check out this page:
http://store.vitalnews.com/w07st.html
For a limited time (until June 11) you can get a download of these
e-books for half off the regular price. (You can get either of them
for only $12.50.)
Thanks for your support of WordTips.

Displaying the Document Title Right Away
------------------------------
One of the properties that Word maintains for a document is a title.
If you want this title displayed on the title bar right after opening
the document, you'll need the single-line macro described in this tip.

Deleting Index Entries
------------------------------
When you construct an index you need to insert all sorts of index
fields throughout your document. If you want to later remove an index
entry, you need to delete the field for that entry, as described here.

Adding a Drop Shadow to a Text Box
------------------------------
Drop shadows add a nice touch to text boxes, making it seem like they
are hovering above the page. Here's the simple steps you need in order
to add a drop shadow to your text boxes.

Turning Off Automatic Hyphenation for Parts of a Document
------------------------------
I have a long document that contains a novel. The document uses
justified text and automatic hyphenation. A few chapters in the novel
consist of letters supposedly written by one or other of the
characters. I need to switch off automatic hyphenation for those
few chapters. How can I do that? (Malcolm Ross-Macdonald)
------------------------------
Having Numbered Lists in Subdocuments Restart their Numbering
------------------------------
I have a master document with approximately 80 subdocuments in it.
About 60 of them contain numbered lists. When I open the whole thing
(outline view | expand documents) the numbers in the numbered lists
continue rather than restart. The numbered lists are set using a style
from a custom global template based on the standard List Number style.
Is there a way to make sure that the numbered lists restart at 1
rather than continue from the previous list without having to change
them manually every time I expand the entire master document? (John
Sturman)
