Issues and Ideas from the New York State Geospatial Summit 2008Issues and Ideas from the New York State Geospatial Summit 2008

Did you ever attend a regional GIS conference that really was not about the region's GIS or even about the work you do day to day? Adena Schutzberg did; she spoke at the New York State Geospatial Summit, an eclectic event held in the wilds of New York State. It's a small, all-plenary event designed to get geospatial professionals to think outside their daily work "boxes." The 2008 edition did just that as she explains in this event wrap-up.

Be there when GIS and the Web unite at the GeoWeb 2008 Conference July 21-25, in Vancouver, B.C.

Podcast: (Geo)technology 2008 - Findability, Accessibility, Portability

Wednesday's podcast prompted a question.

"Any ideas about business models to support findability, accessibility and portability for specialized data types?"
- Charles Huyck

Adena Schutzberg responds:
"No, that really was not my focus in this presentation, but certainly that is an issue for those organizations that wish to sell data. I would suggest keeping an eye on what organizations do with the new version of ArcGIS Server (which can enhance all "abilities" as I noted) and how WeoGeo plays out. For now GeoCommons does not have a money aspect, but I'm sure it could."
