Researchers at Johns Hopkins'
Bloomberg School of Public Health, in
conjunction with others at CIESEN (Columbia University), Lehman
College, and the City University of New York (CUNY) have released a report,
using GIS, to show that 3.2 million Burmese were affected by Cyclone
Nargis. (Full-sized copies of the maps are available in the
report.)
Maps created for the report show the
results of calculations that
determined the likely distribution of the population that was affected
by the cyclone. "We estimate that 20 percent of the population in the
four affected administrative divisions could be affected by Cyclone
Nargis," said Shannon
Doocy, PhD.
