MIANZHU, China (Reuters) - Chinese soldiers were working non-stop
to dig a giant sluice to ease pressure on a swelling "quake
lake", with plans to evacuate hundreds of thousands of people
to avert a new disaster, state media said.

Home prices fell at record pace in first quarter: S&P

marking a pace five times faster than the last housing recession,

Sydney Pollack dies in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Hollywood filmmaker Sydney Pollack, who
won a pair of Academy Awards for the epic romance "Out of Africa"
and earned praise for acting stints in films including "Tootsie"
and "Michael Clayton," died on Monday after a battle with cancer,
his spokeswoman said. He was 73.

Australian man pardoned 86 years after execution
