Survivor's Guide |
Every day thousands of people suffer terrible pain simply because they cannot get proper medical treatment. Survivor's Guide follows the case of a young woman in Uganda, Kanyike Olivia, who has eye cancer and is HIV positive. She is unemployed, lives at home with her two sons and gets by on handouts from friends and neighbours, but she does get visits from a community carer. Kanyike's situation is far from ideal, but at least she is now getting the right drugs and some emotional support. To highlight the other side of the drug issue, Survivor's Guide travels to Kyrgyzstan to examine a pioneering programme to help addicts in a country which traffics 60 per cent of the drugs produced in Afghanistan.

Imagination: Secret Lives Of The Artists |
Secret Lives Of The Artists delves into the stories of artistic greats, unearthing their financial troubles, love lives and artistic motivations. "Looking for Vermeer is a pastime bordering on obsession", presenter Andrew Graham-Dixon observes as he tries to shed light on the private life of the Dutch master. He visits Delft in The Netherlands and discovers that the harmony and tranquillity depicted in Vermeer's luminous canvasses belie a life of near-constant struggle and turbulence.
