This sparkling evening marks the official debut of Manfred Honeck as the PSO's ninth Music Director as well as a party for Manfred's "very special" birthday. This Golden Gala features international piano star Lang Lang performing Chopin's sublime Piano Concerto No. 2. Manfred showcases the PSO in overtures from Berlioz's lively Roman Carnival Overture and Strauss' comic opera Die Fledermaus, as well as movements from Mendelssohn's "Italian" Symphony and Haydn's Symphony No. 94, nicknamed "The Surprise." More surprises promise that this opening concert of the 2008-2009 Season will be a golden extravaganza! Tickets start at $39! Join the PSO and your neighbors for two upcoming concerts in the community! THU, MAY 22 • 7:00PM Wilkinsburg High School Daniel Meyer, conductor All ticket proceeds from the concert will benefit the newly formed Wilkinsburg School District elementary band program. Over the past four years, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s performances in Wilkinsburg have raised over $45,000 that has been returned to the Wilkinsburg community for this cause. Tickets cost $3 for students (K-12) and $7 for adults and seniors.
