Now at Napster: 6 million DRM-free MP3s
Probably the biggest piece of digital music news to come out of CES 2008 was that Napster was planning to offer its complete catalog of more than 6 million tracks in the unprotected MP3 format. On Tuesday, with the launch of version 4.5 of the software and store, that announcement becomes a reality. All four major labels and thousands of indies are represented in the store, and every track will be available at the standard 99-cent price point. Read more

Tiny MP3 players
Flash-based MP3 players are taking over the marketplace. Unlike their hard-drive-based counterparts, flash MP3 players have no moving parts, affording them entirely skip-free playback and, in most cases, a long battery life. Also, flash chips are tiny, meaning the players that use them can be small to the point of ridiculousness. Read more

Of course, you'll be shelling out more than $500 for one, but that's worth it for a piece of tech history, right? Or...no? You tell me. Read more

Need an MP3 for pictures and to play in car
Posted by mike62
I am buying my first MP3 player but had a few very basic questions.

I would prefer a flash drive MP3 player and NOT an iPod. I would like at least a 2.5 screen prefer larger so I can show pictures I might store or maybe some videos. I do not have a large music collection and would never have near even 1000 songs so I don't have to have a lot of storage for songs, maybe pictures more so. I would listen the majority of the time in my vehicle. Does the brand matter for that use and what would I need to play via my car stereo? Read more
