Free Security Software
Sometimes free security is worth what you paid for it. But if you know what to look for, you can get an excellent buy when it comes to protecting your data--without dropping any cash. Here we take a look at five pieces of zero-cost software to help you find the perfect one for your needs.

Hands On with the BlackBerry Bold
If you’ve been eagerly awaiting the newest BlackBerry platform, you’ll want to check out our sneak peek. Mobile analyst Sascha Segan got his hands on a BlackBerry Bold 9000 and its impressive 624-MHz processor and high-speed 3G networking. Get more details in the full hands-on report.

A Cheap Network Switch for Small Business
The HP ProCurve 1700-24 may seem a little feature-anemic, but it can give a small-office network a central switch at a terrific price. It can also provide edge switching in a larger network, if necessary. For the savings, though, you've got to be willing to make a couple of sacrifices. Check out the review for more.

Secure USB Keys: Critical For Enterprise Computing
Companies that deal with sensitive information likely have extensive security measures in-house, but it gets a lot more difficult when employees have to travel with information, say, on a USB key. When merely password encrypting isn't enough, you can turn to a new breed of thumb drives with FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards 140-2 Level 2) certification. Find out Michael Miller's impressions after using one, by visiting his Forward Thinking blog.

Wibrain's Tiny Handheld PC
Though the Wibrain B1H may sound like a Nintendo Wii accessory, it's actually a capable handheld PC the size of a PSP that runs a full-blown version of Windows XP Pro. It's reasonably priced and a pleasure to use, too. However, the B1H enters a market flooded with better and more affordable UMPCs. See what we thought of it in our hands-on review.

This Smartphone Is Losing Its Touch
The Verizon XV6900 Windows Mobile handset would have been innovative had it been released a year ago. Its sleek design and good performance can't quite make up for its anemic set of included software and poor integrated camera. Learn more on PCMag.com.

Security Watch: Microsoft Issues Four New Patches
Microsoft issued security bulletins and patches for four vulnerabilities Tuesday. Three of the flaws, in Microsoft Word, Publisher, and the Jet database engine, are critical in at least some configurations. A fourth vulnerability, in Microsoft's malware detection engine, maxes out at moderate. Head to Security Watch for more details.

Plus: Yahoo! and McAfee Combine to Tar Innocent Search Results
We announced many days ago that McAfee and Yahoo! were partnering to protect users against malicious Web sites, but things may not be going as smoothly as planned.
