Update: Windows XP Logo Program

The Windows XP Logo Program will continue to accept device category submissions until further notice. However, on July 1, 2008, the Windows XP Logo Program will close for new system category submissions for all mainstream PC systems.

Any PC system that achieves Designed for Windows XP logo status prior to July 1, 2008 can continue to use Designed for Windows XP artwork in the product and its packaging for the life of the product. Systems that are downgraded from Windows Vista to Windows XP cannot use the Designed for Windows XP logo unless the system was submitted for Designed for Windows XP logo status prior to July 1, 2008. If the system BIOS is updated after June 30, 2008 and that new BIOS does not meet the guidelines in POLICY-0017, the system must not use the Designed for Windows XP logo even if the system achieved Designed for Windows XP logo status prior to July 1, 2008.

Each device submission for Windows XP will continue to receive a listing on the Hardware Compatibility list. Drivers will continue to be distributed via Windows Update. Normal submission fees still apply.

Although the Windows XP Logo Program closes on July 1, 2008 for mainstream computers, the Windows Logo Program will continue the Designed for Windows XP logo for ultra-low cost personal computers (ULCPCs). In other words, after June 30, 2008, partners can continue to submit systems for Designed for Windows XP logo qualification if those systems meet the following ULCPC classification requirements.

[] System ships with 1 gigabyte (GB) or less of memory (RAM)

[] Screen size is 10.2" or smaller

[] Storage capacity is 16 GB or less for solid state disk (SSD) or 80 GB or less for hard disk drives (HDD)

[] No tablet functionality

[] DirectX version 9 graphics processing unit (GPU) or older

[] Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) S4 sleep state is optional

[] System and devices in the system comply with the remaining Windows Logo Program Requirements version 2.2.1a for Windows XP (available at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winlogo/downloads.mspx)

To test a computer system for the Designed for Windows XP qualification, use the latest version of the Windows Logo Kit. In the submission wizard, from the Systems menu, choose either Desktop or Mobile depending on the form factor for your system. If your system or a device integrated into your system fails the Common Scenario Stress with IO and Sleep Stress with IO tests, the failure might be acceptable if your system does not support ACPI S4. In this case, please contact Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) to obtain an appropriate errata ID.

Partners may continue to resell ULCPC systems and all devices after June 30, 2008. However, all other system reseller submissions must be completed on or before June 30, 2008.
