STEPHEN HILL ON THE 2008 BET AWARDS: T-Pain gets the nods; Usher, Mariah=
=20
on tap to perform
-- by Kenya M Yarbrough

*It's that time of year when the best of the best come together in=
=20
one place, with fans and celebrities alike, watching and waiting with=20
baited breath, when finally, the trophy goes to the victors.=20

That's right, the "BET Awards" are just around the corner on June=20
24, airing at 8pm ET.

BET Network's Stephen Hill chatted with EUR's Lee Bailey about=20
this year's awards show, once again keeping the surprises under wraps,=20
though. One big detail is that Usher will be starting things off come=20
show time.

"We've really got some strong nominations and that's good for a=20
really strong show," he added. "Usher's opening with a production number=
=20
that you'll just have to see to believe. Usher always brings incredible=20
performances and we're expecting that."

Also hitting up the BET Awards stage will be performances by Mary=20
J. Blige, Lil' Wayne, Nelly, Janet Jackson, and Mariah Carey. Could Nick=
=20
Cannon be in the house, too?

"I couldn't tell you, but we certainly invite all couples. It's a=20
couple-skate," Hill joked. "I'm not expecting for Mariah and Nick to=20
perform together, but we're always looking for surprises on the BET=20
Awards, and that might be one."

No secrets were revealed by the tight-lipped network exec, but=20
Hill did mention that while the host has not been confirmed, the channel=
=20
is not trying to make it a surprise.

"That one's not a surprise. We're just ironing out some details.=20
We expect to make the announcement by the end of next week."

It was revealed that legendary R&B Icon Al Green will receive=20
BET's Lifetime Achievement Award. And when asked about the process of=20
selecting the Lifetime Award recipient, Hill explained that the choice=20
is internal at the network.

"That was one name that everybody could agree on," Hill said of=20
this year's honoree. "Everybody loves Al Green. Al Green is a pioneer of=
=20
sensual soul singing and also a staple in gospel as well."

Hill also explained that to-date, the network has not considered=20
giving the Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously. He said that one of=20
the reasons why they have the award is to give people their due while=20
they are alive.

"We always talk about how people only get their recognition and=20
respect after they're dead," he said. "When the Isleys won the award,=20
something Ron Isley was almost crying about was that [they] didn't think=
=20
they would get this kind of recognition while [they] were alive. The=20
Lifetime Achievement is specifically to let somebody get that=20
recognition and enjoy it while their alive."

Additionally, BET's Humanitarian Award will be presented to=20
producer/arranger/composer Quincy Jones.

One thing you can expect at the BET Awards is the unexpected. The=20
Network has already switched it up just a little bit. This year, the=20
network announced the 2008 nominations out of New York City on the set=20
of "106th & Park," as opposed to delivering the good news from the left=20
coast. The awards show itself will be televised live from Los Angeles,=20
however.

This year, leading the pack in nominations is T-Pain, with five.=20
Interestingly, as Hill explained, the majority of T-Pain's noms are from=
=20
his collaboration work rather than his own record.

"He's not nominated for any of his stuff," Hill said. "He's=20
nominated in the 'featuring' categories. Four of his nominations come in=
=20
the best collaborations category. All as a special guest features as=20
opposed to a T-Pain record: Flo Rida, featuring T-Pain; Kanye West,=20
featuring T-Pain; Chris Brown, featuring T-Pain. He's all over and=20
extremely popular. He's a phenomenal collaborator."

T-Pain is followed by Kanye West and Keyshia Cole with three=20
nominations, and Mary J. Blige, Flo Rida and Alicia Keys scored two=20
each.

The 8th annual BET Awards airs June 24 at 8p ET on the network.=20

OBAMA DRAWS LARGEST CROWD OF HIS CAMPAIGN: 75,000 come out to see him=20
speak in Portland, Oregon.

*It looks like Barack Obama's got his groove back. It also appears=
=20
that his Jeremiah Wright troubles are behind him, at least for now.

And after responding strongly to George Bush and John McCain over=20
their comparisons of him to Nazi appeasers, he's got a serious spring in=
=20
his step these days.

Things seem so rosy for the all but officially named presumptive=20
Democratic presidential nominee that a whopping 75,000 supporters turned=
=20
out in Portland on Sunday to hear what he had to say.

The Illinois senator was in the city as part of his campaign in the=
=20
Oregon Primary tomorrow. Kentucky is also holding their primary, but=20
apparently Obama's strategy doesn't include spending any time there.

When asked if he has given up on that state's primary, where=20
Hillary Clinton holds double-digit lead in the polls, Obama said he=20
doesn't give up on anything.

"I don't give up on things, we've gotta make choices and we can't=20
be everywhere at once," Obama told reporters after making a local stop=20
for ice cream with his family.

From Obama's advisor's point of view, May 20 will be a pivotal day=20
for the campaign because they will have gained the majority of elected=20
pledged delegates. Even though Obama said he will not declare victory on=
=20
Tuesday, he said he will have a stronger case to present to=20
superdelegates.

"We will have the majority of pledged delegates at that point and=20
obviously are going to make the argument to any superdelegates remaining=
=20
that we should be the nominee," Obama said.

The Portland speech, as reported by The Swamp blog, was Obama's=20
standard stuff - about 30 minutes long despite the sun beating down on=20
him. He added a few Oregonian flourishes, drawing big cheers when he=20
said the country can learn from Portland's commitment to mass transit=20
and bicycle ***s. The biggest applause came when he denounced the Iraq=20
war; Oregon is a hotbed of anti-war activism.

IN OTHER OBAMA NEWS ... former Republican presidential candidate and=20
former Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee apologized for his beyond=20
lame "joke" about Obama getting shot at while delivering a speech to the=
=20
National Rifle Association (NRA) in Kentucky last Friday

'CURIOUS GEORGE' MAY SUE OVER OBAMA T-SHIRT: Publishers of book series=20
considering legal action against Georgia bar owner.

*The publisher of children's book series "Curious George" has=20
announced it will consider taking legal action against a Georgia bar=20
owner for selling T-shirts that show the monkey peeling a banana with=20
"Obama in '08" printed beneath the image.

"Houghton Mifflin Harcourt did not nor would we ever authorize or=20
approve this use of the Curious George character, which we find=20
offensive and utterly out of keeping with the values Curious George=20
represents," said Richard Blake, the company's spokesman.

Bar owner Mike Norman, who began selling the shirts in late April,=
=20
has said he sees nothing racist about the t-shirts. He said he thinks=20
the Illinois senator and the character "look so much alike."

Bill Nigut, southeast regional director for the Anti-Defamation=20
League, said Norman is being disingenuous.

"He can pretend he doesn't understand what the message of that=20
T-shirt is, but he knows full well that's an offensive and demeaning=20
stereotype used to insult African-Americans," Nigut told the Associated=20
Press.

FOXY BROWN HATES HER OWN ALBUM?: Rapper reportedly fires manager days=20
after release of 'Brooklyn Don Diva.'

*Allhiphop.com is reporting that Foxy Brown has fired her manager=
=20
Chaz Williams over his handling of her newly-released album "Brooklyn's=20
Don Diva."

Brown said the project was "compiled without her approval" while=20
she was on lockdown in Rikers Island for violating her probation.

"I heard this CD in its entirety for the first time just days ago=20
and was devastated," Brown told AllHipHop.com in a statement. "Riddled=20
with grief over an album that was seemingly so carelessly orchestrated,=20
I sat down with the president of Koch to come to a decision on how to=20
make the best of this situation.

"In another phase of my life and career, I would have dealt with=20
this situation with litigation, but for the benefit of my fans and in=20
the wake of the profound spiritual cleansing I recently underwent in=20
prison, I made the decision to settle our creative differences amicably.=
=20
My fans have waited seven years for an in-store release and deserve my=20
very best."

Williams, meanwhile, has confirmed that he is no longer Foxy's=20
manager. During an interview on RockMeTV.com's The Roundtable, the Black=
=20
Hand Entertainment CEO said: "I no longer represent Foxy Brown. =85I=20
stayed with her throughout the prison situation. I was there through her=
=20
whole incarceration. It was time for both of us to split and move on."
=20
Brown says she intends to re-release "Brooklyn's Don Diva" next=20
month on Koch with "five new records, videos, publicity, mass marketing=20
and promotion." She says it will serve as a "mixtape street album" that=20
will precede her long-awaited fourth studio album "Black Roses."

"I am of a certain pedigree, and, I have an obligation to my fans=20
to deliver the level of product my brand is accustomed to," continued=20
Foxy. "In order to preserve my artistic integrity, the new release will=20
have my stamp of approval and fingerprints all over it. Going=20
independent was a great business decision and I believe Koch and I will=20
deliver the biggest street album in female rap history."

DMX ACCUSED OF TRYING TO DODGE HOSPITAL BILL: Plus, rapper pleads not=20
guilty to drug/animal cruelty; MD judge overturns defamation judgment.

*Doctors in Arizona have accused DMX of trying to use a fake name=
=20
to get out of paying for a hospital visit in April - the latest in a=20
string of legal activity relating to the rapper just this weekend alone.

According to court documents obtained Friday by The Arizona=20
Republic, DMX went to the Mayo Clinic's emergency room under the name=20
Troy Jones complaining of shortness of breath and chest pains. The=20
rapper, born Earl Simmons, was diagnosed with pneumonia and released=20
eight hours later.

He could be charged with "theft of services" and providing the=20
hospital with "false information including name and address for billing=20
purposes." His lawyer, according to TMZ.com, called the investigation=20
"petty" and suggested that Sheriff Joe Arpaio had no sympathy for the=20
sick.

Meanwhile, the rapper pleaded not guilty Thursday in Arizona to=20
animal cruelty charges and three felony drug charges - including two=20
counts of marijuana possession and one for drug paraphernalia - stemming=
=20
from a raid of his home last week.

He arrived one hour late for his appearance in front of Maricopa=20
County Superior Court Commissioner Lisa VandenBerg. The charges are in=20
connection with a May 9 raid of his Cave Creek home following a=20
seven-month investigation into animal cruelty charges.

On Friday, a $1.5 million defamation judgment against DMX was=20
overturned in Maryland by Judge Thomas P. Smith, who found that the=20
rapper was not at fault for missing a scheduled court hearing in=20
January.

Monique Wayne filed the lawsuit against DMX after he accused her=20
of raping him at a hotel in Baltimore in 2003. The artist made the=20
allegations in an interview with Sister 2 Sister magazine.

In the original lawsuit, filed in Prince George's County Circuit=
=20
Court in Upper Marlboro, Md. in October 2006, Wayne asked for $6 million=
=20
in damages. The rapper, however, was ordered to pay her $518,400 in=20
compensation and $1 million in punitive penalties when he missed a=20
scheduled hearing.

According to reports, the entertainer was unaware that a hearing=20
was scheduled to take place. DMX hired Baltimore-based The Murphy Firm=20
to contest the ruling.
=20
"Today a very large judgment was vacated by Judge Smith," said=20
Hassan Murphy, a managing partner of The Murphy Firm. "The judge clearly=
=20
agreed with us that Mr. Simmons was never properly notified and=20
therefore he threw out the judgment."

CLAUDIA JORDAN GETS SIRIUS ABOUT TALK RADIO Model and friends chat on=20
new edgy show; Mr. Marcus stopped by to demonstrate oral sex tips.

*EUR's Lee Bailey ran into the incredibly beautiful Claudia Jordan=
=20
and two of her gorgeous partners in crime Saturday night at the 2nd=20
annual Elevee Lifestyle party in Hollywood.=20

The former Barker's Beauty from "The Price Is Right" and current=20
model on "Deal or No Deal," also hosts a live Sirius Satellite Radio=20
broadcast about relationships.=20

The show, called "Claudia Jordan Show Presents The Single Life,"=20
is an hour-long call-in program that airs Monday nights at 7pm PT/10pm=20
Eastern on Sirius Satellite Radio (Channel 106).=20

It's described by Jordan as "very edgy," to say the least, as=20
she's joined by four single friends on the mic with "real talk" ranging=20
from subjects such as interracial relationships to topics titled "You=20
know you're a ho when ..."=20

By the way, tonight's show is "Can you really turn a ho into a=20
housewife?" and will include as guest, legendary rapper Too $hort. But=20
Short Dog is, however, apparently not the most notoriously controversial=
=20
visitor.

"It's not just five girls and a microphone. We had an oral sex=20
show and it went over so well, we had to have a part 2. So we had tips=20
from three men. People said we needed a male presence on the show so we=20
had we had Mr. Marcus, a porn star; a stripper from Hollywood; and then=20
we had a gay man to give us oral sex tips."

Jordan said that it got quite hot on air, as Mr. Marcus=20
demonstrated his technique on co-host Porscha.

"It was very effective," said Porscha.

Hmm, we bet it was. Why isn't this show on TV?! Anyway, we've got=20
lot's more from Claudia and her fiends in an upcoming edition of EUR, so=
=20
stay tuned. Trust us, you won't be disappointed.=20

In the meantime, you can HEAR some of what the girls had to say=20

'MAJOR' DEVELOPMENT FOR T.I. AND TINY: Couple welcomes second son, Major=
=20
Harris.

*Rapper T.I. and his girlfriend Tameka "Tiny" Cottle welcomed=20
their second son together just after midnight Friday morning, the=20
rapper's rep told People magazine.

The little one, named Major Harris, weighed in at 5 pounds, 15=20
ounces. The superior-sounding name follows a theme that began with his=20
older brother, King Harris.

"God has blessed us with another miracle," T.I., whose real name=20
is Clifford Harris, said of his fifth child overall.

The artist is also preparing to welcome another arrival - his new=20
album "Paper Trail" on August 12. He's currently facing prison time=20
after pleading guilty in March to federal weapons charges.

MEDIA STILL BANNED FROM SEALED KELLY DOCS: Judge denies motion from news=
=20
outlets seeking immediate access.

*A judge refused Friday to allow media outlets immediate access=20
to sealed court records and transcripts in the R. Kelly child=20
pornography trial, reports the Associated Press.

In denying the motion from news organizations, Judge Vincent=20
Gaughan said he's not trying to block the press. But he says the time=20
isn't right to release the information and keeping it secret is the only=
=20
way to guarantee a fair trial.

Opening arguments are scheduled to begin tomorrow in the case=20
that has languished in the courts for six years. Kelly has pleaded not=20
guilty to charges he videotaped himself having sex with an underage=20
girl.

Jury selection in the R&B singer's trial finished last week.

RODMAN CHARGED WITH SPOUSAL BATTERY: Former NBA star accused of=20
attacking girlfriend and leaving bruises.

*Dennis Rodman is facing charges of spousal battery after he was=20
arrested at a Century City hotel last month for allegedly beating up his=
=20
girlfriend, according to reports.

The former NBA star was taken into custody on April 30 after=20
police said he attacked his girlfriend of four years, leaving her with=20
arm injuries.

On Friday, he was charged with three misdemeanors, including one=20
count of brandishing a deadly weapon and dissuading a witness, City=20
Attorney's Office spokesman Nick Velasquez said. He's due back in court=20
on Thursday (May 22).

The 47-year-old former member of five NBA Championship winning=20
teams now faces up to 36 months in jail, one year of probation, domestic=
=20
violence counseling and a protective order if found guilty.

MIJAC MOVING TO UPSTATE NEW YORK?: Fox411 columnist says he just bought=20
a house in Poughkeepsie.

*Fox.com columnist Roger Friedman is reporting that Michael=20
Jackson has purchased (or has had someone purchase) a new home in or=20
around Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for a price said to be in the $1 million to $2=
=20
million range.

The purchase comes in the wake of a deal that allowed Jackson to=20
save his Neverland Ranch from a scheduled foreclosure auction. Colony=20
Capital LLC ended up purchasing the loan from Fortress Investment Group.

It appears now that Jackson is looking to leave his West coast=20
drama behind. The new house, according to Freidman, is said to be "a=20
gated property with several bedrooms and a large backyard where his=20
three kids can frolic."

Friedman is also reporting that Jackson will make a guest=20
appearance on a new album by will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas.

"Sources say the new duet is payback for all the work will.i.am=20
did on Jackson's updated 'Thriller' album," Freidman writes. "The 25th=20
anniversary special has passed the 3 million mark worldwide, which is=20
quite an achievement. The single may be the first step in Jackson's plan=
=20
to record a whole new album. It would be his first in seven years."

BLACK CAUCUS MEMBERS HEAD TO HAITI: Kilpatrick will lead delegation for=20
a one day visit to call attention to starvation.

*A Congressional Black Caucus delegation, led by CBC Chairwoman=20
Carolyn C. Kilpatrick (D-MI), will travel to Haiti Friday for a one-day=20
visit as part of the group's ongoing effort to bring attention to the=20
plight of starving Haitians.

During their visit, lawmakers are hoping to see firsthand the=20
effects of rising food prices in Haiti, and whether aid is reaching=20
those who need it the most, reports MiamiHerald.com.

Last month, frustrated Haitians took to the streets in deadly=20
protests over rising food prices. In response, Haiti's Senate fired=20
Prime Minister Jacques-Edouard Alexis, accusing him of mismanaging the=20
economy.

Lawmakers also plan to meet with President R=E9ne Pr=E9val, who is=
=20
still struggling to replace Alexis and put a functioning government in=20
place after the lower house of parliament rejected his first nominee,=20
Inter-American Development Bank official and agronomist Ericq Pierre.

The CBC visit comes just two days after the House passed a bill to=
=20
help Haiti. Along with $40 billion in farm subsidies, the legislation=20
provides a boost to Haiti's textile industry by extending the current=20
Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity through Partnership Encouragement Act=20
(HOPE) to 10 years, and allowing Haiti to use more fabrics from China=20
and Asia in its exports to the United States.
