Nepal: Rule of Law Training
At the request of Nepal's Attorney General, USIP recently conducted a workshop in Kathmandu based on the Institute book Combating Serious Crimes in Postconflict Societies. Rule of Law Deputy Director Colette Rausch, along with Nepal-based advisors and local partners Shobhakar Budhathoki and Karon Cochran-Budhathoki, facilitated the seminar.
The team worked with 21 prosecutors over two days, focusing on various aspects of rule of law with special attention to human rights and international conventions signed by Nepal. "While the country is coming out of conflict, this program helped us to understand the issue of serious crime," remarked one participant.
USIP has been asked to conduct additional workshops in Nepal on the topic, including special sessions on police-prosecutor relations.
