Hello Shanghai ... dahling!

How are you doing, madam? Charmed, I'm sure. Another weekend is upon us, and here's some more blather to get mildly excited about.

So I'm sure your still reeling from Cut Chemist last night at The Shelter. Da Admiral didn't go - had an intense date with the season finale of Weeds - but I heard it was packed with a line up around the block. Very nice. If you like it Jurassic, well ex-Jurassic anyways, don't forget about Nu Mark also performing at The Shelter Monday, May 26. Even less playground tactics. Absolutely no rabbit in a hat tricks.

Well parties this weekend are plentiful for the drunk, the disingenuous, and the elegantly vapid, but let's talk about something a little more serious and important first.

To wit: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is opening next week and I need to get my Sherpas order just right to match my viewing experience when I inevitably pop the pirated copy into my DVD player.

Matching Sherpas orders to DVDs is an art form not to be taken lightly. Were it Temple of Doom, I'd order from an Indian restaurant. Raiders of the Lost Arc? Nazi bad guys? Something from Pau***r or Dan's Old Farmhouse (yes, I know Dan is Danish not German but he's got some good pork knuckle).

My problem is this: the plot details for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull are so closely guarded that I don't know which food will compliment the movie. Suggestions are welcome. Send them in if you know anything about this movie that I don't.

I'm not going to be dropping the ball on this one - it's too huge - it could make or break my summer.

Anyways, parties: the big one tonight will be at MoCA's new artspace where that restaurant used to be (article here). Lots of artsy people, pretend artsy people, and interesting snaps, pops, and whistles from some Euro DJs. I just hope they're not charging 50rmb for glasses of wine like they used to for other events. That used to harsh my buzz something fierce. Afterparty for that is at LOgO and Anar - stop in either or both or neither or whatever. Hey, whatevs, I'm not telling you what to do.

Other options for tonight are kinda the usual stuff that's popular these days: Sugar, Lounge 18, Attica, 789, Volar - all have stuff on, and you can scroll down for details.

As for Saturday, I'm looking in my Magic 8 ball and predicting that Sandy Riviera at Attica will be huge. I know -- I'm a real professional to make that call.

Muse also has a big one with some DJ and her big breasts playing dance music. The VOID crew are back at The Shelter (they're hosting Robert Hood in the near future so look out for that), and MAO should be good on Saturday as well.

As for live music, it's all already been written on the SmSh Wire, so click here for local live music events and scroll down to find the little article.

Hey, here is some live music gossip for you though. Windows Underground will be opening May 31 and the band kicking it off is Second Hand Rose! They're a turbo wicked glam rock / Dongbei opera-type, Chinese weirdness band -- one of my favourites -- and really should not be missed. It'll be a huge show. AND the week after that Windows Underground hosts "Get in the Van II: Die Harder" with headliners Joyside! They sound like an injection of hard drugs straight to the privates, so that should be lovely.

Check out this weekends charity events here. And donate what you can to the Red Cross!

So give it up smooth, ain't no tellin' when I'm down for a jack move,

Da Admiral

Joke of the week

A husband and wife came for counseling after 20 years of marriage. When asked what the problem was, the wife went into a passionate, painful tirade listing every problem they had ever had in the 20 years they had been married.

She went on and on and on: neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneliness, feeling unloved and unlovable, an entire laundry list of unmet needs she had endured over the course of their marriage.

Finally, after allowing this to go on for a sufficient length of time, the therapist got up, walked around the desk and, after asking the wife to stand, embraced and kissed her passionately as her husband watched with a raised eyebrow. The woman shut up and quietly sat down as though in a daze.

The therapist turned to the husband and said, "This is what your wife needs at least three times a week. Can you do this?"

The husband thought for a moment and replied, "Well, I can drop her off here on Mondays and Wednesdays, but on Fridays, I fish."
