May Newsletter

We are all looking forward to the first "official" long weekend of summer.  Whatever your plans, and wherever you are going, don't forget the camera.  It will be a great chance to capture all the beauty of the season - trees in bloom, happy faces (perhaps covered with ice cream), gardening, cottage opening, or just hanging out with friends.  If your travels bring you to St. Jacob's, make sure you stop in for a visit! And before you read on we just have to say... LET'S GO RANGERS!!!!!

World Turtle Day ~ Friday, May 23rd

Did you know we have our own holiday??  World Turtle Day is celebrated on May 23rd.  As many of you know, turtles are very special to me.   Did you know that turtles have been on the earth for more than 215 million years?  They were already roaming the earth when the dinosaurs appeared and disappeared, saw the evolution of many mammals, including elephants and humans.  There are 257 species of turtles, inhabiting all of the continents but Antartica.  Some turtles can live to the ripe old age of 150 or more.  I could go on and on but I'll stop there.  You can explore the internet for more information, there is lots to be found!

To celebrate World Turtle Day, when you shop with us on Friday, May 23rd you will receive DOUBLE TURTLE STAMPS on all qualifying purchases (online sales included)

Crop for Alison

As many of you have no doubt heard, one of our fellow scrapbookers, Keri Postma, has been struck with tragedy within her family.  Her 5-year-old daughter has been diagnosed recently with an inoperable brain tumor.  Many of her scrapbooking friends have put together a fundraising crop for the Postma Family and Alison.  The crop will be held Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Calvary United Church, 48 Hawkesville Road, St. Jacobs.  The crop will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The cost for this day of scrapbooking is $25 ($10 for children over 10 accompanied by an adult scrapbooker).  The day will include morning coffee, lunch, drinks and snacks.  While no tax receipt will be issued for the registration fee, any donation over $10 will receive a receipt from the church.  Please make donations cheques payable to Calvary United Church.   Registration for the crop should be made by June 5, registration forms are available at the store.
