Green car options
Are you concerned about pollution and global climate change? We cover the different fuel and powertrain options for reducing your carbon footprint and smog output. Current cars in production include hybrids, flex fuel (ethanol), natural gas, and diesels, all of which can run cleaner than the typical gasoline-only cars. We also take a look at future technologies, most notably electric cars, which move emissions to the point of generation, rather than have them spew from a tailpipe. Electric variants include hydrogen fuel cell and range extender vehicles, both are promising technologies that give electric cars equivalent performance to current gasoline cars. Nissan plans electric car by 2010Kevin Massy Associate Editor For all of the buzz surrounding General Motors' Chevy Volt, it now looks as if Nissan may well be the first major automaker to market with an electric car in the United States. A line item buried in Nissan's midterm business plan reaffirms the company's commitment to "zero-emission vehicle leadership," with a plan to introduce an all-electric vehicle in the U.S. and Japan in 2010 and then mass-market vehicles to consumers globally in 2012.
