    Hair care advertising in print witnessed a 48 per cent growth during Q1 of 2008 as compared to the corresponding period last year. Shampoos led among all the segments of hair care category in print, with Ban Labs Ltd topping the advertisers’ list during Q1 of 2008.


    In India, there is a lot of competition, and the domestic news channels tend to have a very sensationalist approach towards news. You will see the breaking news tag almost continuously. That’s not the way we treat our stories, we wouldn’t want to copy any news channel. Breaking news is always going to be an on-the-spot judgment by the person who is in control of the newsroom at that particular point in time.

    Rohan Deshpande has been appointed as Associate Director, Wireless Technology, at Hungama. In his new role, he will be responsible for creating and executing the technology roadmap. In addition, he would analyse the variety of technologies available and identify the systems needed to architect a complete product offering that fits Hungama’s goals. Deshpande brings with him eight years’ experience in the telecom sector. He began his career with Tata Infotech as engineer and has also worked with Bharti Cellular Ltd (Airtel) as Senior Engineer-IN & VAS, Western Region. He also worked with ADC (Metrica) Software Ltd, USA, as Technical Account Manager for India & South East Asia, and SmartTrust AB as Pre-Sales and Program Manager.

    Ramita Chaudhury has been appointed as Station Head of Big FM Kolkata. She replaces Bodhayan Roychoudhury. Chaudhury will report to Rohit Dhar, Regional Director-East, Big FM. In her new role, Chaudhury would be looking after the overall functioning of the Kolkata station, including developing on-air properties for leading brands and providing integrated marketing solutions to clients. She had earlier worked in Hutchison Telecom, where she was responsible for the successful launch of Hutch (nor Vodafone) operations at the state level across West Bengal, apart from effective ground activation programmes, Wunderman India, Imagine Advertising, DIREM, and Lowe as Group Account Head, where she had handled clients like Maruti, Panasonic, Convergys, and Moving Pictures Ltd, among others.

    Manoj Gunawardena has been appointed as CEO of Sri Lankan Airlines. Gunawardena has been in the airline for over 25 years and has over 17 years of direct sales and commercial experience with the airline. He was appointed as Head of Worldwide Sales in May 2006 and is currently responsible for the airline’s global sales activities. Prior to being appointed Head of Worldwide Sales, he was Regional Manager, UK, Europe and Americas, a position that he held from 2005.

    Gurmeet Singh, Business Director at Music Today, has put in his papers to join Rajshri Media as CEO. In Singh’s six-year stint at Music Today, the company consolidated its position in classical music and Sufi music. Singh had earlier worked with Sony BMG for close to four years where he headed their North India operations. He began his career with Mumbai-based Marico Industries and in the five years with them, he handled various sales assignments, besides heading the brand Sil jams.
