China quake toll exceeds 19,500: Xinhua

BEIJING (Reuters) - The death toll from the deadliest quake to
hit China in three decades has risen to above 19,500, the official
Xinhua news agency said on Thursday, citing the provincial government
of southwestern Sichuan province.

Indian group claims responsibility for bombings

it set off coordinated blasts that tore through a packed shopping

Barclays takes close to $2 billion writedown, keeps capital options

an undisclosed amount in the first quarter and refused to rule
out a rights issue after a 1 billion pound ($1.95 billion) writedown
