Bay has a long and interesting history. It was known as Daphne to the Greeks because the nymph of the same name escaped the attentions of Apollo by being transformed into a bay tree. Heartbroken, Apollo, the God of music and poetry, took the tree as his emblem, hence the terms “poet laureate” and “to gain one’s laurels”. Even today, bay leaves under pillows are said to help foresee the future in dreams. A garland of bay leaves was used to crown the heads of heroes particularly at the Olympic games. In Europe, you can still see bay leaf garlands hanging on doors and bay trees growing close to entrances and in pots near doorways. Bay’s antimicrobial actions justify this use. In Elizabethan times, the leaves were used in the kitchen to keep weevils out of grain and flour.

Certificate in Aromatherapy - The focus of the Certificate in Aromatherapy is holistic aromatology. Holistic aromatology focuses on restoration of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health through the application of essential oils. We use the terms “aromatherapy” and “aromatology” interchangeably throughout the program. All healing modalities offered by ACHS focus on the holistic approach.
