DID YOU KNOW?
Bananas are actually herbs. Bananas die after fruiting, like all herbs do.
TONIGHT ON THE CBS
EVENING NEWS
Here’s an early look at what we are
working on for tonight’s broadcast of The CBS Evening News from Anchor
and Managing Editor, Katie Couric
Hi everyone. I hope you had a great weekend.
We'll begin tonight's broadcast with the latest on the worst earthquakes to
hit China
in decades. The 7.9-magnitude quake killed more than 8,000 people, trapped
hundreds of students and caused a toxic gas leak. Celia Hatton has the story of massive damage - and the
search for survivors - from Beijing.
Next, we'll shift across Asia to the crisis in Myanmar. Allen Pizzey will report on the
continuing effort to get aid finally making it in to the survivors of the
deadly cyclone … though the United Nations says it's not nearly enough.
Here at home, we've had our own deadly weather over the weekend. Storms
across the plains states and South spawned tornadoes that killed at least 22
people … and cut a wide swath of destruction. Kelly Cobiella has the story.
It's still early in tornado season, but this year is already being called the
deadliest in a decade. What's causing the severely destructive storms - and
how can we be better prepared when they do strike? Dave Price explains.
A new round of autism test cases are in federal court - claiming the link
between vaccinations and autism shouldn't be denied. Sharyl Attkisson talks to the families
bringing the cases. She'll also
show us her exclusive
interview with a former NIH director who breaks with her colleagues about
what may be causing autism.
Finally tonight, we've started
our engines on our week-long series, Eye on the Road. Jeff Glor and Nancy Cordes started their journeys at
different ends of the country, heading for Independence, Missouri.
Along the way, they'll chart gas prices they encounter - and the stories of
the way rising prices at the pump affect Americans. Please click on the

to our special section, where Nancy and
Jeff are blogging from the road. Thanks to GPS technology, you can
also track our Eye on
the Road teams (and see how fast they're going!) … by

Thanks and I hope you'll join us tonight! Katie
