What happens when four teams of urban professionals try to survive in the tremendous Alaskan wilderness for three long months? Will they be tough enough to take on the freezing, brutal environment?

This dramatic and visceral series pits Man against Nature in an epic struggle. The diverse teams are placed in four different, challenging landscapes and equipped with basic food and equipment. But to survive, they need to learn to hunt, fish, and cut their own firewood. Through tests that provide real data including, weight, body mass index, blood sugars, cholesterol, ketosis, and stress, follow how the teams physically and psychologically change in this struggle against nature. THE ALASKA EXPERIMENT airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on the Discovery Channel.

What's so special about today? Something interesting has happened on just about every date you can name. Here's one from this week:

Monkey Business
May 5, 1925: Leaders in the small mining town of Dayton, Tennessee agree to accept an offer of free legal support from the ACLU to challenge a state law forbidding the teaching of evolution. They convince a young high school teacher named John Scopes to break the law, leading to the now famous Scopes Monkey Trial.
