I have a front room in my house that I want to be a very comfortable reading room where you have some chairs or a loveseat that look as if you can just sink into them and be comfy and read. My floors are cherry hardwood and my wall is brown with ivory trim.
S. P. Arlington, TX

The first step to creating your comfortable reading room is deciding what type of furniture to buy. This mainly depends on how much space is available and on how formal or casual you want it to be. To create an inviting reading spot in a smaller space, try two recliners or a recliner and chair with ottoman. We offer recliners ranging from casual designs with a soft, plush feel to formal designs that make perfect places to relax in style. If you have a bit more space to work with, you can try mixing a chair or recliner with a loveseat or chaise. Once you know what size furniture will work, use the wide variety of upholstery and silhouette options to create the atmosphere you are looking for. Have fun decorating!

Tip of the Month:

Whether your home office is for paying household bills or running a business, it should be a place that invites you to get work done. Here are some tips to help keep your home office space functional and comfortable:

  • Choose the right place. Ask yourself about the types of preferences that will affect your work environment. Consider whether you prefer more sunlight, an outside view, closer proximity to other family members, a separate space in the house, etc.
  • Set things up for comfort. A comfortable chair and good lighting are two key components to productivity. A good chair will promote proper body alignment and appropriate lighting will help prevent eyestrain, allowing you to stay focused on the task at hand.
  • Personalize your space. Surround yourself with objects you love - treasured collections, family photographs, etc. This will give your work environment personality and spark creativity. Just make sure that the amount of cherished belongings doesn't become distracting.
  • Clear the decks. Get in the habit of cleaning off your work surface at the end of each day. This will provide a relaxed, streamlined setting in which you can focus on today's tasks rather than yesterday's work.
