News: Apple Refreshes iMac Line
Apple announced an update to its iMac line, which includes new Intel Core 2 Duo processors with 6MB L2 cache and 1066 MHz front-side bus, a standard 2GB of memory on most models, and the most powerful graphics yet available on the system.
Dan: Emmet, my 13-year-old stepson, just informed me that his next computer would be a Mac, probably this iMac right here. Now I can appreciate that Apple makes great systems, but now they are going after my family. Just doesn’t seem right. I do, after all work at “PC” Magazine. Thing is, when we benchmarked the new iMac, it actually ran Windows applications faster than many conventional PCs. Makes it kind of hard to argue with him. How can I keep him in the PC family?
Vicki: I'm not sure why you feel you have to. Isn't it up to the individual? Don't you believe in the freedom of choice? I'm of the opinion that a person should go with what makes them most comfortable (and, of course, with something they can afford). So, if a Mac is his next system of choice, let him go to the other side.

How to Downgrade from Vista to XP
Fed up with Vista? Here are step-by-step instructions for downgrading back to the warm familiarity of Windows XP.
Dan: First a killer new iMac. Then, a step-by-step guide to dump Vista. I am sensing a trend in this week’s top stories. I know everybody likes to pick on Vista, but is it really so much worse than XP that you would need to uninstall it and go back to XP? I don’t think so. I tell people to go ahead and get Vista installed if they are getting a new PC. Think I am wrong?
Vicki: I guess it depends on why you're telling folks to switch to Vista. My guess is you have only the best intentions in mind, and it's not that you're frustrated by what you may perceive as folks' ignorance about the OS. Like it or not, Vista is the present and the foreseeable future.

12 Tech Tools to Clear Your Clutter
Clear the clutter and organize your digital life with these 12 capable devices and easy-to-use apps.
Dan: God knows, I need help clearing clutter. I spend a good part of my day just moving piles around my desk, and my bag is a motley collection of unpaid, unopened bills. (Is it May already? Crap.) I have a Western Digital My Passport but I find that is just one more thing for me to carry. How do you keep you desk—and life—so clutter free?
Vicki: It's a way of life, my friend. I'm someone who can't stand clutter in any area of my life. In fact, just this past weekend my mother was in town and she kept commenting about how I "placed" things around my apartment. (Hmmm, was she saying I have some sort of OCD?) In any case, the same is true of my office and my tech life. So, it should come as no surprise that this story is right up my alley! There are quite of few products included here—namely that Epson PictureMate Zoom—that I've got my eye on!

Review: Falcon Northwest FragBox 8500
This "budget" high-end gamer lets you get your fragpower to go.
Dan: At nearly $2K, the FragBox isn’t really my definition of “budget,” but I am not a huge gamer. The thing I really love about the FragBox is the design. It has been basically unchanged for years and is perfect for taking to impromptu LAN parties. Maybe I could get Emmet interested in this instead of a Mac…
Vicki: Leave the boy alone! Now, I'm no gamer myself, but I have to admit that this thing is cool! And for hard-core gamers, I think it's safe to say that $2K isn't such as stretch. What they get in return is, as our Desktop Analyst Joel Santo Doming says, "a gaming system without apologies.

Review: Grand Theft Auto IV
Grand Theft Auto IV is more immersive than ever with an engaging storyline, upgraded multimedia elements, and a dynamic setting where anything can happen. Videogame worlds just don't get this deep.
Dan: This is what I am doing this weekend. It is going to be raining and cold in New York, but the forecast for Liberty City looks fantastic. The game cost $100 million to make and is going to clear more than 10 times that. Want to come over and play?
Vicki: Oh no, another one lost to GTA! Now, as I said, I'm no gamer (so no, I won't be coming over), but there is something pretty seductive about this one. The amount of research that went into creating it and the level of detail is pretty astounding. I've been getting frequent updates from someone who works for me (by Day 2 after its release she had already played well over 10 hours), and, frankly, I'm in awe of this game. Hey, maybe I will come over!
