Google diving into 3D mapping of oceans

News not yet confirmed by Google reveals a plan for a project, currently called Google Oceans. Per C|net: "People will be able to see the underwater topography, called bathymetry; search for particular spots or attractions; and navigate through the digital environment by zooming and panning." Details of data sources are speculative, but academics are excited about casual scientists having access to underwater data and visualizations. One way to think ahead to what may be next for Google's mapping is to have a look at the atlases on the library shelves. What might be next?
