Upcoming Events & Readings
Friday, May 16, 7 PM: Our Bodies, Ourselves: Pregnancy and Birth (Touchstone, $15.00) discussed by Judy Norsigian, co-editor. The trusted Boston Women's Health Book Collective has written a Our Bodies Ourselves Pregnancycomprehensive, accessible, and up-to-date book for expectant mothers. It balances important facts and scientific data with the voices of actual women,  providing expectant mothers with questions to ask, issues to think about, and options to consider and discuss. Topics range from diet and exercise to relationships, motherhood, sexuality, and physical and mental illnesses. Chapters advocating for better maternity care and for improved family policies provide practical resources and serve as a call for action. This is a welcome addition to the Our Bodies Ourselves series.

Friday, May 23, 7 PM: Stella Pope Duarte, author of If I Die in Juarez (U. of A., $16.95).
For more than a decade, hundreds of women from Juarez have disappeared, many brutally murdered by assassins who have gone unpunished. Duarte interviewed relatives of some of the If I Die in Juarezmissing women and wrote this brilliantly crafted novel to help bring this story to light. From the red-light districts in Ciudad Juarez to remote villages hidden away in the mountains of Chihuahua, this novel traces the lives of three young women: Evita, a street child; Petra, a maquiladora worker; and Mayela, a Tarahumara Indian girl. Together they uncover Juarez's forbidden secret.
