Mother May Eye
Fitting that the month of May celebrates both workers (May 1) and
mothers (May 11), for who among us can claim they would be here today
without their mother?s labor?
While a woman?s work, especially one with kids, may never be done,
we?ve toiled hard here at China Books to come up with sales specials
that honor both work and those that bore us (no, not the blabbermouth
office mate who induces narcolepsy).
May also marks Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.
The
name may be a mouthful, but means to honor all who crossed the Taipingyang
to make a new life in America on their personal version of the
Mayflower. Look for our next newsletter in mid-May for a celebration of
titles on that topic.
May 4th Movement
On
the 89th Anniversary of China?s reaction to the Treaty of Versailles
(a perceived slight in France triggering mass urban
demonstrations?sound familiar?) celebrate your own wusi
yundong by marching down to San Francisco?s Asian
Art Museum. The first Sunday of every month is now FREE!
An exhibition on Chinese Jade from the later dynasties is now
taking place.

early 1990s. Driven by ambition, yetunable to navigate academic
politics, Liu Xing is inexorably pushed to the margins of American
life, until he loses his way..."
