Today's menu consists of four races, three from Churchill Downs and one from Opening Day at Belmont.

Tuesday's Results: Delaware Race #3 Best bet scratched. Second pick #5 (Alphabet Storm) winner $7.40.

NOTES
The major news on Tuesday concerned the filly "Eight Belles." After saying that she would run in the Derby, trainer Larry Jones cross-entered her in the "Kentucky Oaks" on Friday, but she drew the 12-post in a 12-horse field. She'll also be entered in the Derby, but if she were to draw in the 15-20 range he would have a big decision to make.

Tuesday's Work-Tab:
TALE OF EKATI: Four furlongs in :49.45, galloped out five furlongs in 1:02.82

BIG BROWN, GAYEGO, COURT VISION and Z-HUMOR all had very strong gallops, with Big Brown making his first appearance on the Churchill Downs main track. Quoting the "clocker" he looked "strong physically, and changed leads whenever asked." 

COLONEL JOHN-Galloped once around the track in the company of a pony and that "light activity" may indicate that last Sunday's blazing workout may have taken a bit of a toll.

Pletcher’s Push for the Preakness…
(Oops, you know I meant Kentucky Derby).

An up-and-down horse racing prep season has given way to the first leg of this year’s Triple Crown. The first Saturday in May marks the annual running of the Kentucky Derby and this year’s Derby will see some upstart runners with lots of early-season success and even more yet to be proved.  

Trainer Todd Pletcher has distinguished himself as the premier trainer in America by wining the Eclipse Award an amazing four times in a row. But the one thing that has eluded this top-tier trainer is a single Kentucky Derby win. Could this be the year? 

Pletcher will push two runners into the starting blocks at Churchill Downs while carrying a giant ape of a 0-19 mark into the Derby – the longest such losing streak for any starting trainer. Not only has Pletcher gone 0-fer, he almost missed getting a runner in the race at all this year.

BELMONT Race #SIX (3:40 PM Eastern)

(# 2) PRECIOUS TOO - Should make it three in a row today by winning this in the first two furlongs. Very fast filly has found herself since a claim by trainer Bruce Levine this past January. Training well since her latest score on March 26, she's the choice for the win.
(# 1) Western Sweep - Makes her first start since last November for trainer Carlos Martin. Hard hitter is stakes placed and draws the rail for her comeback. Likely winner if the top pick fails.
(# 3) Just Zip It - Filly has hit the board in all five of her starts. Has speed/stalking ability and has a recency edge on many entered.
(# 5) Duchess of Rokeby - Lasix is added for the first time by trainer Allen Jerkens. Versatile sort as to both distance and surface, she has run well here in the past (6-1-1-2). She races today off a late-December layoff.
