AEP CEO: U.S. faces power crisis
If the federal and state governments do not take dynamic measures to ease construction of new electrical generation plants, the U.S. economy could face crippling power shortages within a decade, according to Michael Morris, chairman, president and chief executive of AEP, parent company of Public Service Co. of Oklahoma.
‘English Only' bill debated by lawmakers
Oklahoma is a defensive measure to protect the state from enforcement of an unconstitutional, extortionary executive order issued by former President Bill Clinton, said the bill's author.

Green thoughts lead to solar energy biz
Chris and Ctaci Gary have always been on top of environmental issues and decided to take a big step early this year when they opened Sun City, a solar power distributor in Oklahoma City. Chris Gary spent 14 years in the recycling business prior to starting the solar business. Sun City's home headquarters are in Tulsa, and the Garys opened their own franchise in February.

Oneok earnings surge 51 percent
Rising commodity prices and strong volume growth lifted first-quarter earnings 51 percent for Oneok Partners LP of Tulsa, besting Wall Street estimates. That compared to a 5.9-percent drop in net income for Oneok Inc., which failed to meet predictions. "Oneok Partners had an exceptionally strong quarter, driven by increased volumes, higher commodity prices and wider commodity spreads," said John Gibson, chief executive of both firms. While colder weather and increased volumes boosted its distribution business in Oklahoma and Kansas, Gibson said lower marketing and storage margins lowered results in Oneok Inc.'s energy services segment. For the three months ended March 31, Oneok Partners posted a net income of $145 million, or $1.48 per unit, far above its year-ago profit of $95.8 million, or $1 per unit.
