Dear Criss,

Well, April has just flown by and I knew it would. I have been so busy with developing new finishes, creating projects for magazines, preparing for several classes that I will travel to teach. Travel teaching adds a whole new level of preparation - you have to be so organized....you can't forget anything!

So, as we enter May with June coming fast - here is what's on the calendar. I'm teaching a class at the FEI Dallas, TX school the week of May 6th - we have the Artistic Cabinetry Workshop the week of June 5th here at APS and then off to teach in Portland, OR at Chromatix for the local SALI chapter......with the National SALI convention not too far behind!

Also, in this newsletter you will find more exciting information on the SALI convention, May specials and another recipe.

Creatively Yours, Jennifer R Ferguson

 Blogging or NOT

Okay, my intentions were good but I have definitely fallen short!!!

I was hoping to have so much more up on my blog by now - it is live www.studiojrenee.com - but, there isn't much to read.

I have at least seven pages drafted - but, just can't find the time to get the pictures inserted into the posts. As it is, I'm working on this newsletter while I'm in Reno, NV for my daughters volleyball tournament - but, I don't have any of my pictures on the laptop computer.

I'm hoping to have at least a couple of the posts up in a week, so please don't give up on my blog yet. Keeping logging onto www.studiojrenee.com and hopefully I will surprise you with some great posts soon.

 Recipe of the Month
 Layers of Luster

This recipe is for your walls not your stomach.......
This is one of my favorite finishes created with LusterStone® and it's pretty simple with great impact.

LAYERS OF LUSTER - Materials needed:
  • LusterStone(tm) - Antique Parchment
  • Aqua Color - Dark Brown
  • AquaBond - Chamois
  • Trowel

  1. Base coat the surface with AquaBond Chamois (2 coats) and all to dry.
  2. Trowel on one layer of LusterStone Antique Parchment - thin even layer with a little activity and interest. All to dry.
  3. Take some of the LusterStone Antique Parchment and tint it a little darker with AquaColor Dark Brown. You want some contrast, but don't make it too dark.
  4. With the tinted Antique Parchment - skip trowel on your second layer for about 75% coverage, allowing the first layer to still come through. All to dry.
  5. Using the original Antique Parchment - add approx. 10% H2O and pull a tight coat. This layer will be 100% coverage and will "marry" the first two layers together.
  6. If the contrast is too strong - you can continue to "haze" some of the last color over and push back the darker layer.

Step back a couple of feet and enjoy the beautiful wall you just created - simple, fast and fun!!!

Color and Design for the Decorative Artist® - Our color and design class is essential for any decorative painter who wants to enhance their knowledge of color and interior design. This lecture course is taught with extensive notes, PowerPoint slides, and examples of these theories in practice. This sensational course offers tricks of the trade and tips on how to manipulate your finishes to benefit your client's needs.
