TONIGHT ON THE CBS
EVENING NEWS
Here's an early look at what we are working
on for tonight's broadcast of THE CBS EVENING NEWS from Anchor and Managing
Editor Katie Couric:
Hi everyone,
A new CBS News/New York Times poll out tonight shows a sizable shift in
voters' expectations of who will win the Democratic nomination. It also
points to changing perceptions about which Democrat would be most electable
in November. Dean Reynolds
unveils the poll results - and will explain how the numbers might affect the
crucial next round of primaries.
And what about blue-collar voters who have drawn so much attention from
pollsters? Cynthia Bowers heads
to Indiana
to get a sense of what really matters to them.
The Federal Reserve cut a key interest rate today. But will the move be
enough to stimulate the economy? Anthony
Mason has the story.
Our next story from John Blackstone
may come as no surprise … as the cost of filling up keeps going up.
Skyrocketing gas prices seem to be fueling a new wave of crime - and gasoline
thieves are becoming increasingly brazen. We'll show you some shocking
surveillance footage from around the country.
Also, we meet a soldier who spent 15 months fighting in Afghanistan
in the some of the most challenging conditions you can imagine. Once he got
home to Fort Bragg, he certainly didn't expect he'd
still have trouble finding a working bathroom! David Martin explains what happened next.
If you're in debt, do you know what to do when the bill collector comes
knocking? Michelle Miller has an
inside look at the increasingly lucrative industry of debt collecting. It's
the latest installment of our series, Life & Debt in America.
Finally tonight: You may have seen The Early Show's inspiring reports on how
the town of Greensburg, Kansas, is working so hard to rebuild after it was
flattened by tornadoes last year. It's a town on a journey… From Tragedy to Triumph.
Harry Smith reports.
I hope you'll join us for all this and more! Katie
