Today on "World News with Charles Gibson":

Inching Upward:
The Commerce Department reports today that the economy grew at 0.6 percent during the first three months of 2008. The growth is small but still slightly larger than economists had predicted. This comes on the heels of another expected rate cut from the Federal Reserve; experts say it is likely to be the last cut for a while due to fears of inflation. As the economy continues to sputter, is there any relief in sight? ABC's Betsy Stark reports.

Breaking the Silence:
For patients with vocal cord cancer, speaking, laughing and singing are activities that often become a part of the past. The current treatments of surgery and radiation often destroy vocal cords beyond repair. But Dr. Steven Zeitels, a world-renowned voice doctor at the Mass General Hospital in Boston, has been searching for another option and helping to restore some of the world's most famous voices. His research has proven to be groundbreaking. ABC's Dr. Timothy Johnson reports tonight.

And on our "World News" webcast along with our top headlines:":

Teacher of the Year:
President Bush will honor 7th-grade science teacher Mike Geisen of Prineville, Ore., National Teacher of the Year for 2008, today at the White House. On his national application, Geisen wrote about focusing on the child and "not just test scores or future adult successes." Geisen is the 58th National Teacher of the Year, and the third from Oregon. He will serve as a spokesman for education for a year starting on June 1, 2008. Yunji De Nies reports from Washington.

Death Toll Rising:
As U.S. forces struggle with increasing resistance from Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr's followers, including rockets and mortars that have been fired into the Green Zone, American service members have seen a rising casualty count. This month has included the deadliest week for U.S. forces in all of 2008: 46 men and women serving overseas died the week of April 7. ABC's Ryan Owens reports from Baghdad.
