 | Featured Producer: Batsiranai Craft Project The Batsiranai Craft Project is a cooperative of mothers with disabled children living in the Dzivarasekwa township of Zimbabwe. The word "Batsiranai" translates from the Shona language to mean "helping each other." Helping each other is just what this project is about – the women work together to support each other emotionally and help their families economically through their artistry in handicrafts.
It's hard for many to grasp that 1 in 4 people in the village where Batsiranai operates is HIV positive. The children require complex medical, emotional and educational interventions, and the women live under extremely challenging circumstances: all use public transport or walk, some are widowed and/or single mothers, and many husbands are unemployed.
Purchasing Batsiranai handicrafts is the way you can help support and empower these mothers and children. Check out the Zimbabwe Twin Dolls from the Batsiranai Craft Project. Zimbabwe Twin Dolls | |
