Mon, Apr 28th 2008 06:48

Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale

About: Ah3 is an invoicing and inventory system for repair shops. It comes
configured for an auto repair shop but can be configured to handle any shop
with customers who have things to be repaired. It includes a customer and
vehicle database, the ability to generate invoices, and the ability to
track the repair history of a vehicle. It also tracks inventory, allowing
for parts with multiple vendors and costs and other information. Ah3 is
the successor to Autohouse II.

by Josh Kearney (http://freshmeat.net/users/jk0/)
Mon, Apr 28th 2008 10:35

About: Audacious Announcer is a complete rewrite of XMMS Announcer: a
simple utility that neatly prints the current track playing in Audacious
(and even XMMS). It has optional command line arguments that allow for
more detailed information about the track, along with the ability to copy
the track data to the clipboard (requires xclip). The unique feature is
that it allows for an easily customizable output string, which is done by
using the -f switch on the command line.

Changes: This release adds support for the new Audacious API.

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Systems Administration

About: CTL is a cross-platform control dispatching tool that makes it easy
to automate any kind of distributed systems management or application
provisioning task. Rather than writing complex and error-prone scripts
that over utilize "for loops", CTL handles the network dispatching for you
and allows you to focus on the actual management tasks you need to
accomplish. In addition to being a dispatching tool, CTL comes with
pre-built cross-platform utilities so you don't have to script actions
like file distribution or process and port checking. You can also write
your own custom utilities and share them with others in your organization.
Custom utilities are defined in XML, and your scripting can be done in
multiple scripting languages (Perl, Python, etc.), *nix shell, Windows
batch, and/or Ant.

Printing
Utilities

About: pdfposter allows you to scale and tile PDF images/pages to print on
multiple pages. It works much like 'poster' does for Postscript files, but
working with PDF, since sometimes poster does not like files converted
from PDF.

Changes: Posterization has been reworked, and now tries to find the best
horizontal/vertical ratio of number of media pages to match the expected
poster size. This is strongly inspired by 'poster.c'.

[041] - task spooler 0.5.4
by viric (http://freshmeat.net/users/viric/)
Mon, Apr 28th 2008 06:42

System

About: task spooler is a Unix batch system where the tasks spooled run one
after the other. Each user in each system has his own job queue. The tasks
are run in the correct context (that of enqueue) from any shell/process,
and its output/results can be easily watched. It is very useful when you
know that your commands depend on a lot of RAM, a lot of disk use, give a
lot of output, or for whatever reason it's better not to run them at the
same time.

Changes: several bugs related to -t, -w, -c, -r, and other options were
fixed. The behavior of -c (cat) was changed so that it waits until the job
is finished.

Mon, Apr 28th 2008 13:15

Communications
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Virtual Ideal Functionality Framework is a framework for creating
efficient and secure multi-party computations (SMPC). Players, who do not
trust each other, participate in a joint computation based on their
private inputs. The computation is done using a cryptographic protocol
which allows them to obtain a correct answer without revealing their
inputs. Operations supported include addition, multiplication, and
comparison, all with Shamir secret shared outputs.

Changes: This release adds preliminary support for preprocessing and a
multiplication protocol secure against active adversaries. The Runtime
class has been split into several parts, and two new mixin classes provide
different comparison protocols. Several coercion problems were fixed. The
Runtime.callback method was renamed to Runtime.schedule_callback. VIFF was
tested on Python 2.6, and some small problems were fixed. The installation
guide was updated for Windows Vista.
