Typewriter Love
Let's take a few seconds to travel back in time. Specifically, you might want to take your imagination break in a 1950s classroom. Do you see the lunch boxes? Typewriters? Bunsen burners? File all that under inspiration. This fall UPPERCASE gallery plans to hold an exhibit around the theme "Old
School." It will feature art inspired by everything from vintage flash cards to gym class, along with a selection of curated objects. Answer the participant call through May 15.

The Secret Lives of Grocery Shoppers
Out of milk already? Hillary Carlip's new book, À La Cart, might make you see the creative possibilities in that trip to the grocery store. She rifled through her collection of found grocery lists and imagined the people behind 26 favorites. She wrote stories about these characters,
then dressed up as each one for grocery store photography sessions. Be sure to check out tortured goth boy, who was inspired by a list that read: mouse traps, cheese, mouse. There's a nice sneak peek on the book's website.

Print on Demand (In Your Hand)
You may have already mourned the death of Polaroid instant film, but now the company hopes to redeem itself with impatient photographers. This fall they're releasing a handheld printer that lets you create 2 x 3-inch prints in 60 seconds. It's small enough to stick in your pocket, so you can turn
your camera phone or digital camera into a mobile print shop. Digital pics are nice, but sometimes you want the warm, fuzzy feeling that comes from holding a print in your hand.
