Southampton-based Environmental Tectonics Corp. announced today that the American Stock Exchange agreed to continue listing the company, at least through May 29.

Merck & Co. Inc. does not like what some have been saying about its conduct regarding the drugs Vytorin and Zetia. Those are the cholesterol fighters that were lambasted by several cardiologists at the American College of Cardiology meeting at the end of March. Results of a study by Merck and its partner, Schering-Plough, released in January showed little benefit compared against Merck’s simvastatin. The backlash from that cardiology meeting moved Merck CEO Richard T. Clark to defend his company’s conduct on Monday's analysts call.

Merck & Co. Inc., which has lost patent protection on one of its big revenue producers, osteoporosis drug Fosamax, said yesterday that first-quarter sales rose 1 percent and earnings soared on a special $2.2 billion pretax gain from a limited partnership with AstraZeneca P.L.C.
