Juried art show displays selection of student talent
Outside the Student Union Gallery, students formed a line for complimentary salmon, cheese and carrot cake. But for many, the real treat was seeing whose artwork made it into the 2008 Juried Student Art Exhibition.
Amid the frenzy inside and outside the gallery, no one knew before opening which pieces had been selected.
Warning: Genocide Photos Ahead.
Large yellow signs posted around the quad on April 15 and 16 cautioned students of the graphic display they were about to witness.
Individuals and anti-abortion groups, such as event organizers UAA Students for Life and Alaska Right to Life, set up camp to protest abortion in a campaign called the Genocide Awareness Project outside the Lucy Cuddy Hall.

Following the final home game of each season, the UAA hockey players normally have an autograph session. Not only does this allow the fans an opportunity to meet the athletes they cheer for, but also it gives them a chance to wish luck to the seniors who are departing - and get a memento before the athletes become famous.

More than 50 girls succumb to 'hysteria' DAKAR, Senegal - More than 50 school children underwent hospital treatment April 18 after developing what educators called mass hysteria, marked by fainting and screaming. Firefighters immediately shut down Dakar's Lamine Gueye Secondary School and Senegal Minister of Education Moustapha Sourang ordered an investigation.

TNL wins eight awards in statewide competition The Northern Light's staff members took home eight awards from the Alaska Press Club's annual awards banquet, including a first-place award for Motion as the best section out of small newspapers in Alaska. It is the most awards The Northern Light has ever received from the Alaska Press Club, which held its awards ceremony this year on April 19.

Sunday, April 6 UPD orders snow removal 7:53 a.m. -- UPD noticed that there was an accumulation of snow that needed to be removed for safety. The maintenance staff was contacted to conduct groundskeeping. Car slides on icy roads 11:39 a.m. -- A driver's car slid off UAA Drive and hit a tree.

Jersey mayor finds lost cat in home's wall
NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. - Mayor Peter Massa put out a citywide catcall when his Maine Coon disappeared. Massa had an automatic call sent to 8,500 voters on Wednesday asking for help finding Max.

Seawolf hockey signs two skaters for 08-09 UAA head hockey coach Dave Shyiak announced today the signing of Curtis Leinweber (Calgary, Alberta) and Tyler Moir (Calgary, Alberta) to National Letters of Intent to play for the Seawolves in 2008-09. The incoming duo combined to score 135 points this past season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, while helping lead their respective teams to second- and third-place finishes in the AJHL South Division.

Demonstrators don't understand meaning of genocide By Kaitlin Johnson The Northern Light All Americans have the right to promote and defend their beliefs. However, they also have a responsibility to represent issues in an honest manner. The Genocide Awareness Project, which has been hosted all across the nation, displayed its anti-abortion message for students to see.
