[005] - BeanKeeper 2.4.1
by Robert (http://freshmeat.net/users/demonofthesystem/)
Sun, Apr 20th 2008 08:19

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: BeanKeeper (formerly Simple Persistence for Java) is a full
featured, powerful object/relational persistence and query library. It has
a unique philosophy of simpleness and ease of use: it does not require
config files, annotations, code generation, code "enhancing", or any kind
of tools to be used. It handles simple Java beans (or POJOs) and its query
service returns lists. Despite its simpleness, under the hood the library
takes care of all the necessary logic: transaction visibility, result list
paging, keys and ids, table creation/modification, class relations,
inheritance/polymorphism, case sensitiveness, and much more. It currently
supports: Oracle, HSQLDB, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.

Changes: This release fixes locking and synchronization issues. It fixes a
potential memory leak bug in ObjectTracker. Read-only lock support was
added to LockManager; now all locks default to read-only locks, while
Store operations (save and remove) use write locks. JMX-compatible
management beans were added to the API.

[006] - Big Faceless Graph Library 2.3.4
by BFO (Big Faceless Organization)
(http://freshmeat.net/users/faceless/)
Sun, Apr 20th 2008 20:05

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The Big Faceless Graph Library is a Java class library for creating
graphs and charts. It is backed by a full 3D engine, allowing you to create
shaded 3D pie, bar, and line graphs as GIF, PDF, PNG, or other image
formats. Its features include transparent backgrounds, extensible axes to
graph dates, currencies, custom fonts, and spline curve fitting. It is
small, fast, and easy to use.

Changes: The FunctionLineSeries has been modified slightly: there is a now
a "complete" method for subclasses, and the "setLineSeries" method can
retrieve the data from a LineSeries. A matching "series" attribute in the
XML has been added. Labels on MultiBar graphs are correctly positioned.
NaN values can be used in BoxWhisker series. The Graph Library can now be
licensed using a license file.

[016] - delsafe 0.5.0
by psds (http://freshmeat.net/users/psdasilva/)
Sun, Apr 20th 2008 00:31

About: delsafe is a set of utilities to hopefully allow you to recover
recently deleted files. Basically, when you delete or in certain cases
overwrite a file the original file is moved into a trash can. It does this
by overriding the original unlink, rename, open, and fopen library calls
using the Linux LD_PRELOAD mechanism. Trash cans are placed on top of each
mount point and are accessible by each user directly or through links
placed in the user's home directory. This makes deletion very fast
because, in fact, it is only a renaming. To each filename in the trash can
is appended a time/version stamp.

Changes: A few major bugs were fixed. Performance was improved.

[033] - IDSS 0.1.0.5
by Fab Nicol (http://freshmeat.net/users/fabnicol/)
Sun, Apr 20th 2008 14:16

About: IDSS is a statistical application for email surveys. It parses HTML
questionnaires filled in by respondents. Output is: a separated database, a
SAS DATA step import program, and correspondence tables between variable
characteristics and field values. IDSS was developed as an alternative to
Web-based statistical surveys. No coding experience or network programming
is required to set up a survey. Tools for checking execution and coherence
of data are available. Performing database authoring takes barely more
running time than gzip compression of the survey questionnaires. IDSS can
thus be used to parse and analyse fairly large numbers of electronic
questionnaires and create large databases (10,000 lines and more in
tests).

Changes: This release has improved cross-platform features. Builds have
been made available for GNU/Linux (RPM), Solaris, FreeBSD, and Mac OS X
10.4/Darwin 8. English and French are supported.

[048] - mpmath 0.8
by Fredrik Johansson (http://freshmeat.net/users/fredrik_j/)
Sun, Apr 20th 2008 14:13

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Mpmath is a pure-Python library for arbitrary-precision
floating-point arithmetic. It implements the standard functions from
Python's math and cmath modules (exp, log, sin, etc.), plus a few
nonelementary special functions (gamma, zeta, etc.), and has utilities for
arbitrary-precision numerical differentiation, integration, root-finding,
and interval arithmetic. It supports unlimited exponent sizes, has full
support for complex numbers, and offers better performance than Python's
standard decimal library. Mpmath is lightweight and easy to install or
include in other software due to being written entirely in Python with no
additional dependencies.

Changes: This version adds methods for oscillatory quadrature, accelerated
summation of infinite series, limit computation, integration of ODEs, and
constant recognition (similar to the Inverse Symbolic Calculator). There
are several new mathematical functions, including the Lambert W function,
elliptic integrals and various hypergeometric functions, plus a few new
mathematical constants such as the golden ratio and Khinchin's constant.
Various existing functions have been tuned for accuracy and speed. A
number of important bugfixes have also been committed.

Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: The descriptions of log2, gcd, lowestSetBit, 'rem', 'mdiv', and
'mod' in the manual were improved. The functions gcd and modInverse were
added to bigint.s7i. The programs chkbig.sd7, chkexc.sd7, and chk_all.sd7
were improved. The compiler (comp.sd7) was improved to work with GMP's
bigIntegers. The handling of various functions in the compiler was
improved. Three example programs were added. The file big_gmp.c was added

[083] - Tokyo Cabinet 1.2.4
by Mikio Hirabayashi (http://freshmeat.net/users/mikio/)
Sun, Apr 20th 2008 08:16

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Tokyo Cabinet is a library of routines for managing a database. It
is the successor of QDBM. Tokyo Cabinet runs very fast. For example, the
time required to store 1 million records is 1.5 seconds for a hash
database and 2.2 seconds for a B+ tree database. Moreover, the database
size is very small. For example, the overhead for a record is 16 bytes for
a hash database, and 5 bytes for a B+ tree database. Furthermore, the
scalability of Tokyo Cabinet is great. The database size can be up to 8EB.

Changes: An API to manage an inverted index for a full-text search system
was added. The validation checker for the database format was improved.

[084] - UDFclient 0.6.2
by Reinoud Zandijk (http://freshmeat.net/users/buzztoh/)
Sun, Apr 20th 2008 08:26

Utilities

About: UDFclient is a userland implementation of the UDF filesystem as
defined by the OSTA group. It is designed to be a study platform and a
run-up to a full read and write (NetBSD) kernel level implementation. It
provides a user interface not unlike ftp but differs in that it always
fetches or writes files recursively. It supports the basic get, mget, put,
mput, mv, rm, mkdir, cd, lcd, free, pwd, and lls command set.

Changes: This release fixes yet another regression found on some
DVD-R/CD-RW drives, fixing newfs_udf and udfclient writing on those
drives. Complete harddisc/flash support on Linux apeared to be broken and
should be fixed now. There are many enhancements to cd_discect; it now
reports not only the TOC and the PMA, but also the ATIP. The ATIP contains
information on the CD-RW subtype, which is crucial for checking whether the
disc can be written by the drive.

Sun, Apr 20th 2008 00:41

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Unified I/O is high performance Java I/O library. It features high
performance (due to buffering), memory management, the ability to access
streams, arrays, and files using the same interface, the ability to read
or write directly from or into primitive arrays, and optimized reading
over HTTP. Unified I/O also contains many utilities: Transformer,
BitInputStream and BitOutputStream, PackBits, a RLE4 and RLE8 decoder, a
base64 codec implementation, and many others.

Changes: This release added the ability to read/manipulate bits of byte
arrays without using ByteArrayInputStream or ByteArrayOutputStream by
including new ByteArray and ByteArrayIO classes. ByteArray encapsulates a
byte array with byte and bit offsets, while ByteArrayIO contains static
methods for accessing bits of the byte array. Bugs were fixed.

[092] - xterm patch #235
by T.E.Dickey (http://freshmeat.net/users/tedickey/)
Sun, Apr 20th 2008 20:03

Desktop Environment
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: The xterm program is the standard terminal emulator for the X
Window System. It provides DEC VT102/VT220 and Tektronix 4014 compatible
terminals for programs that can't use the window system directly. If the
underlying operating system supports terminal resizing capabilities (for
example, the SIGWINCH signal in systems derived from 4.3bsd), xterm will
use the facilities to notify programs running in the window whenever it is
resized.

Changes: This release improves portability for Mac OS X (imake is no
longer needed). It fixes a problem initializing under the StumpWM window
manager. The cursor position has been adjusted to compensate for resizing

[093] - xTests 0.6.1
by Dr Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/DrProctor/)
Sun, Apr 20th 2008 00:34

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: xTests is a small, simple, lightweight, portable unit/component
testing library for exercising C and C++ libraries. It relies on no
platform-specific or compiler-specific constructs and doesn't require
pre-processing of your source code by scripting languages or use macros to
create secret classes that use Schwarz counters to register test cases. It
relies on you to simply code what you want, and nothing that you don't
want.

Changes: The use of string access shims was incorporated into the
multi-byte and wide string evaluation constructs, allowing heterogeneous
string types to be compared automatically, with apparent structural
conformance in client code. Now C-style strings, std::string,
std::wstring, and any other types for which string access shims are
defined may be compared as if they're implicitly comparable.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Multimedia :: Video

About: youtube-dl is a small command-line program for downloading videos
from YouTube.com.

Changes: This release makes it possible to use escaped URLs in addition to
the normal ones. In addition, the program now tries to print more
functional URLs instead of the final ones, which have been giving 403
errors lately when used directly in a download manager.
