Tooth in Advertising: Blog Helps Dentist Bite into Search
For Comfort Dental, the way to cut its teeth on Internet marketing last summer was simple: Start a blog. Beth Negus Viveiros recently talked with Anderson, IN dentist Dr. Dean Stratman about how the blog has driven hits -- and new patients -- to the practice.

"It seems like every dental practice on the p***t now has a Web site," says Stratman. "A blog was a way for us way to differentiate ourselves."

"People are searching for things in a way they weren't a few years ago," says Ali Sales, co-founder and president of Compendium Blogware, which helped Comfort Dental create the blog. "They didn't have a Web site presence, so they knew they were missing out on even on the most basic levels."

Walk on Buy: Palladium Shoes Drives Web Foot Traffic
If you want people to buy more shoes, get them to walk more.

That's the idea behind a new point-of-sale poster campaign launched last month by Consolidated Shoes' Palladium brand. The "Get Your Ramble On" posters, which customers can download from Palladium.com, feature maps and slogans like "See Praha like Kafka--Walk it."

The goal of the campaign--besides selling shoes--is to bring the brand to life and drive people to Palladium's Web site, says Amy Gallagher, director of marketing at Consolidated.

Sing a Song: Penguin Stages Contest to Hype Book
In a neat mash-up between fact and fiction, Penguin Young Readers Group is using a song contest to promote a new young adult novel about a girl who unwillingly inspires a smash hit you-dumped-me song.

The promotion, which runs until midnight June 10, asks fans to submit video clips of 45 seconds to two minutes' length of original music they have composed to fit lyrics in the novel "Audrey, Wait!" by Robin Benway. The title refers both to the hit song, and to the embattled main character, who must dodge rabid fans, tabloid reporters and paparazzi on the street and in her high school.
