Hey Shanghai!

How U doing? Well this weekend is a .... WHOA ... did you hear THIS? The New Kids on the Block are getting back together. All of them. Even long-time holdout Danny! Just to bum you out a little bit and make you feel old, Joey is 35 years old now! He was the young one. The rest are in their 40s! Good lord. Time flies when you're a washed up boy band.

Speaking of reforming boy bands, Union Music, is back in town! A little longer in the tooth but just as hungry. Gotta stay hungry. Union Music play a show at The Wall this Saturday, so head on down to hear some quality house music - eight hours of it. Check out the SmartShanghai interview here. Watch out for their Wednesday nights at Attica soon.

As speaking of Saturday, because I've jumped ahead a bit, Goth-Trad, a Japanese dub step DJ will be performing a live set at The Shelter. Check out that one to hear the latest craze in UK dance music. Done by a Japanese dude. What else for Saturday? BJ post punk outfit PK14 return to Shanghers, joined by Antidote at Windows Tembo. Very nice. That's the concert of the weekend. Also, if you've got it in you, check out Yuyintang to see Cold Fairyland tonight.

Other big news is that NAS "door passes" are available and you can get those here (show is on April 25). Don't miss out on that one playa, tickets are going fast. Don't forget about the You Say Party! We Say Die! concert on April 18. What's this? Oh. Kenny G is also coming back to town on May whogivesashit.

Here's some other random happenings that look good. For tonight: I like I Love Shanghai, doing a drunken Olympics party, Anar bar (ex-Pirates) is having its soft opening with Bananas and Ladybox (SmSh article here), and Audiowhores are at Attica. For tomorrow, Tomcraft at Volar should be ahhhh-ight.

Oh and Celine Dion is tonight. We're reviewing that sucker so check back at smartshanghai.com on Monday to hear how awesome it went.

Zapata's, the house that the Lonely P***t guidebook built, is celebrating a birthday next week so congrats to them.

Last but not least, Q5 members, you are now able to join Q5 wine club, which is a monthly service that delivers quality wine to your door at a fraction of the price. Click here to find out more about that. The savings! The savings!

Stay gold, pony boys,

Joke of the week

A large, powerfully-built guy meets a woman at a bar. After a number of drinks, they agree to go back to his place. As they are making out in the bedroom, he stands up and starts to undress.
After he takes his shirt off, he flexes his muscular arms and says, "See that, baby? That''s 1000 pounds of dynamite!" She begins to drool.
The man drops his pants, strikes a bodybuilder''s pose, and says, referring to his bulging thighs, "See those, baby? That''s 1000 pounds of dynamite!" She is aching for action at this point.
Finally, he drops his underpants, and after a quick glance, she grabs her purse and runs screaming to the front door.
He catches her before she is able to leave and asks, "Why are you in such a hurry to go?"
She replies, "With 2000 pounds of dynamite and such a short fuse, I was afraid you were about to blow!"
