TomTom and Garmin Lose Their Way

BusinessWeek offers coverage of the latest domino effect in the geospatial arena. On Tuesday TomTom dropped its forecast, which prompted a drop in its stock price. Then Garmin fell. SiRF, the GPS chipmaker fell as well. What's pushing the industry doldrums? Margins are down even and phone makers such as Nokia are invading the navigation space. The bright spots for the industry may well be Dash's connected and traffic-savvy offering and the upcoming Garmin Nuvifone. This week, however, satellite navigation is not a market winner.

Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging Rebrands as ERDAS and Takes Aim at the Enterprise Geospatial Market

A very clever reader quibbles about words in this sentence from the article: "The Leica brand did not provide much additional market value in the geospatial solution space, while the ERDAS name had strong notoriety with global desktop deployments and more than 40,000 customers."
