Top Commander Testifies
Gen. David Petraeus, top commander in Baghdad, and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker, U.S. envoy to Baghdad, testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee today about the progress of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Petraeus recommended a 45-day pause in the drawdown of surge troops in July, followed by a "period of consolidation and evaluation" to decide on any further reduction in forces. The general refused, however, to offer an estimate on the number of troops expected to still be in Baghdad at the end of the year. "Nightline" co-anchor Terry Moran sits down for an exclusive interview with Petraeus and Crocker tonight to discuss America's presence in Iraq as the war enters its sixth year.
