Tod Schimelpfenig has written about the new Hands-Only CPR protocol in the Wilderness Medicine Blog. This new approach is being circulated to being American Heart Association to their instructors. While it does not mean that rescue breathing is being phased out, it is based on research showing that in cases of sudden heart attack, lay rescuers are not very efficient at breathing and that keeping the heart pumping results in better survival rates.
