Transportation officials appeal to nix funding trigger |
When the state Legislature voted in 2005 and again in 2006 to pass huge increases in transportation funding – contingent upon a 3-percent increase in state revenues – the state's economy was on the upswing. A 3-percent increase in annual
revenues seemed a reasonable threshold. If state revenues grew by less than 3 percent, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation would receive $17.5 million; if revenues grew by 3 percent or more, ODOT would receive up to $50 million per
year. The press releases announcing the funding plan focused on the $50 million figure, and ODOT built its eight-year plan anticipating full funding. But the state has failed to meet the trigger each year.
