Hey Shanghai!

How U doin? Me? Thanks for asking. I'm alright. ... A little hungover 'cause I went and had a sneak peak at the "new" Bar Rouge last night. How is it, you ask? Kinda the same I think. It's red. What did it look like before anyways? It was red wasn't it? Well the furniture is new, and now they have these red-velvet booth-like things as their main seating. They've also got mini-bar coffee tables for these booths, which come with built-in ice areas. It feels more open as well. Like ... more room to stand around and look wealthy. They've also moved the DJ booth about three meters. Anyways, it is still unfinished apparently. And it won't be finished for another few weeks, according to whoever that person I was talking to last night. I guess they're still trying to get some kind of space-age glass roof things to go over those booths, and it's supposed to be really impressive somehow.

Anyways, I BOUNCED right out of there soon as the free drinks dried up because that's how I roll. And then I ambled down to ILS for their "Metal Night," where I was serenaded with the sweet sounds of Judas Priest, Megadeth, Motley Crue, and G'N'F'n'R...

Hey, I know you don't care 'bout what the ole admiral is getting up to on his nights out, but it was the only way I could think of to remind you that I Love Shanghai is celebrating their TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY TONIGHT (SmSh article here)! Head on down for the party of the weekend - two years of ILS means two nights of debauchery with tonight featuring a bevy of local mega-ultra-turbo-superstar DJs including Siesta, Ozone, Bamford, and more. Tomorrow night, SexyPaul drives the party to it's inevitable climax with dress-up disco, the "Rockettes," and other assorted lunacy. Don't miss out on either, BRO.

If you're looking for other nightlife events to tack-on to the aforementioned two - like an order of potato wedges with your mammoth Blue Cheese burger - check out ... wikka-wikka-wikka ... DJ Kentaro down at The Shelter tonight (SmSh interview with Kentaro here). He's was a World DMC Champ at the age of 20 and he had a perfect score to win. He must have been up there on the decks spinning double luxes and triple axels and shit to get that. Wordemup! Also Bar Rouge officially opens and you all who are not as well-connected as me (thankyouthankyou) can check out the renovations which I poorly described up above.

Hey here's a tip for you: free beer at the Bund Brewery tonight from 6pm until 9pm. That gets you in the right area for ILS (or BR, whichever acronym is more your thing), and if you bring your name card, they give you a 1000rmb voucher. So that likeĦ ... more FREE than FREE. Turbo free, bro.

Saturday, your weekend continues with the BRB opening with Scott Bond, Timmy Vegas at Attica, Shanghai By Bus with Drunk Monks dad on the decks. That's right, his DAD will be playing some rare reggae. How cool is that?

Live music your thing? Punk rock tonight at Yuyintang with some band I've never heard of - but they have a saxophone, so I'm hoping they sound like Rocket from the Crypt. Boys Climbing Ropes and the Dropkicks are playing there on Saturday. Live Bar also has punk on tonight with Mother**er666 and a Japanese band on for Saturday. Don't forget about the free Subs show next weekend at Windows!

If its rumours you want then rumours I've got: apparently - now this is just a rumour still folks - Volar is going to RIP OUT all that lovely Philip Stark-designed bottom floor set up and turn it into a hip hop club. Can I have that rad glass display case?

Also, one last thing:

Question: What's funnier than seeing all these jobless Shanghai DJs scrambling around looking for visas now that the regulations have changed and they have to go to HK every 30 days?

Answer: NOTHING!

Have a good weekend everyone. I've missed some good events but you know what to do: scroll down for details!

Wax a chump like a candle,

Da Admiral

Joke of the week

Three hicks were working on a telephone tower - Steve, Bruce and Jed. Steve falls off and is killed instantly. As the ambulance takes the body away, Bruce says, "Someone should go and tell his wife."

Jed says, "OK, I'm pretty good at that sensitive stuff, I'll do it."

Two hours later, he comes back carrying a case of beer. Bruce says, "Where did you get that, Jed?"

"Steve's wife gave it to me," Jed replies.

"That's unbelievable, you told the lady her husband was dead and she gave you beer?"

Well, not exactly", Jed says. "When she answered the door, I said to her, 'You must be Steve's widow'."

She said, "No, I'm not a widow!"

And I said, "I'll bet you a case of Budweiser you are."
